Windows Sonic vs Dolby Atmos vs Stereo comparison

I couldn't find many videos doing a detailed comparison of Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos. So I decided to make one myself. Enjoy!

Since this video has gained a lot of traction, I'd like to clarify some questions/doubts people have had.
1. What are the games?
A: The games are Metro 2033 and Titanfall 2.
2. This isn't true Atmos cause youtube only supports Stereo.
A: You guys are confusing "Dolby Atmos" with "Dolby Atmos for Headphone". I thought it was obvious that I was showcasing Dolby Atmos for Headphones but apparently not.
Dolby Atmos for Headphones is a technology that converts multiple audio channels into binaural audio. This is supposed to make your headphones sound more immersive. Windows Sonic is another technology that does this. Hence why I made this comparison video.

Both Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos reproduce fantastic audio. Just received my new Xbox Wireless headphones for my Xbox Series X so I’m excited to try out Dolby Atmos extensively.

Actually, I find that although Atmos is a bit better at sound positioning (less echo) it does mute a lot of distant sounds, thing that doesn't really happen to Sonic. You should also add the DTS Headphones X thingy too to this comparison.

Thanks for the video. This convinced me that Atmos Stereo is still not good enough. Stereo presents all the sound without losing any of it to being muddled or processed. Atmos is definitely better than Sonic and that's useful information. But I prefer clear audio and even Atmos doesn't quite achieve that.

First of all, thanks for create this video, it`s a great job. Second, I am using an AKG k52 headphone which provide an acceptable sound quality. In my opinion, the windows sonic sound is more realistic, while the Dolby Atmos is more confortable to hear, less audition stress.

It is really interesting how different the perception of (good) sound can be. For me, Windows Sonic sounds like crap and Dolby Atmos is just incredible great. But I read a lot of reports claiming the exact opposite. I would never dare to say these people are wrong. Positional audio just seems to be a very subjective thing.

Every progamer plays in stereo. Surround sound in games is usually already programmed by the game itself. If you still use sorround software (Sonic, Atmos, DTX), the sorround sound emanating from the game is distorted. The answer is simple and will always be the same: stereo.

Loved Dolby Atmos when I had my other headset. Just got a new headset that doesn't take Dolby Atmos so I have to use Windows Sonic and honestly I'm really liking it too. Not sure if I like it more than Atmos though but the headphones themselves are better than the old ones so might not be a fair comparison

Did you use Realteck in your tests? because on my realteck I hear it less immersive

Probably way too late to ask this but, how did you manage to record the video with Sonic and Atmos? Everytime i record gameplay with Atmos activated it will only be stereo. But surround from sound cards work though.

Spatial sound is certainly impressive but everything sounds more distant with both Sonic and Atmos.

Basic stereo suits me best in my opinion as Windows Sonic just sounds tinny and crap. As well, Dolby Atmos is just severely delayed plus I can't be bothered to pay rent to use it.

Does dolby Atmos post some settings besides on/off? . I love the flexibility you get with creative labs solutions.

Stereo - Use this to hear more in video games like PUBG.

Sonic - Use this to hear clear in video games like PUBG (Less Audible)

Atmos - Use this while watching movies, cause most of the games don't support it.

Most of the games don't support Windows Sonic too.

I use stereo myself, And if you want to become a competitive gamer then you should use stereo sound too. You hear more and hear it before others.
