A 32 hour work week NEEDS to happen. There is so very much data which would make this a win for ALL people and businesses involved.

California is so forward thinking. I’m Europe, some countries like Germany and France also have reduced work week hours.

Why don't they apply this to politician's staff first to see how well it works out for them?

For any proposed legislation anywhere to materialize as law it is always pre-approved by the masters of the universe campaign contributors who craft said legislation like an irresistible shiny fishing lure and as you might have guessed fishing lures are not for the benefit of the fish and neither is purchased legislation.

The employers with 500+ employees will avoid paying overtime by hiring part-time workers and pay them at a lower rate. However, the employees will have more time off but their paychecks will be less. The rising housing costs and prolonged inflation will have a negative financial impact on the full-time employees.

In theory, this sounds great. In practice, it may be a disaster. Hourly wages won't be increased, so working fewer hours will only result in a smaller paycheck. And overtime will get cut because companies know they can just hire more part-time employees and work them twice as hard. Salaries for new hires will go down. Benefits will get slashed. The cost of goods and services will increase. It's really too bad because in reality, workers are happier and more productive when they spend less time on the job.

This is evil. California is pretty much telling large companies to leave, or pay more to stay. Congrats on driving away more companies.

Each employer pays an EDD tax for every employee - even if another employer is already paying EDD taxes for that individual, so by doing this CA is just getting more EDD payroll taxes. Good thing those funds were appropriated wisely during the pandemic.

Gotta make sure those prisoners and hackers get maximum payout from funds that are effectively stolen from your paycheck.

500 + is too high. Should be 1 + and 40 hours as a full time worker but overtime after 32 hours. Employees have more than enough money, there just greedy, the workers are the one making them rich, so the workers deserve to be treated with some respect

Sounds good in theory but what will happen is goods and services will increase in price and everything will be more expensive to even afford making our three day weekend bored in the house bored.

Will the 20% decrease in pay be balanced by a 20% decrease in rent?
Food prices? Fuel?

Or will the poor just get poorer.
Or have to take a second job for the remaining 3 days a week.
But hey, Cali can claim that reduces unemployment!

What’s the point if Corporation can still make it mandatory to work over those hours? 😑
