I watched this interview a few hours ago. This happens near the end where Peterson ends his discussion about truth drawing reference to Pinocchio. Very unexpected and intense moment. Absolutely incredible, I recommend seeing the full thing, link below as always.

Peterson's depth of awareness reminds me of Polish psychologist, psychiatrist, and physician Kazimierz Dąbrowski and his concept of "positive disintegration"

As I understand it, Positive Disintegration is a matter of degree and its objective is to free ourselves from all manner of illusions which we have been conditioned into since childhood. Unbeknownst to ourselves, our illusions become substitutes for reality and very poor ones at that. So as long as we continue to subject ourselves to, say, political and religious ideologies that are inept in addressing the perennial problems of human existence, we remain, as Jordan said, as puppets on a string.

Letting go of our conditioned mind is not for the fainthearted. It requires enormous courage and humility by putting into question our most cherished beliefs. And when you begin to see the truth of them, when you discover them for what they actually are: impediments to "an ever increasing awareness of ourselves" suffering would most likely ensue but this suffering is what Jung calls "legitimate suffering". And this suffering, while depressing, is also salvific. It has a redeeming effect which is the very expression of Positive Disintegration. And during this process, you discover truths you never thought existed. They were there in your mind and suddenly you can see them. Erich Fromm says that we all have *unconscious knowledge*
Unfortunately, many people fear questioning themselves at such depth and prefer to cling to their archaic beliefs and illusions even though they suffer greatly under them. So the enemy is not outside ourselves but resides within us. It is these un-examined illusions and ideologies that we take as reality is what undermine the evolution of *our* humanity.

As Dr. Karen Horney (horn-eye) said in her book "Neurosis and Human Growth" regarding the shedding of our *victim-hood* and becoming a *real being* as Jordan indicated:

*_A better possibility of dealing with destructive forces in ourselves is that of outgrowing them. The way toward this goal is an ever increasing awareness and understanding of ourselves. Self knowledge, then, is not an aim in itself, but a means of liberating the forces of spontaneous growth_*

Elsewhere she says,

*_To the extent that we take our growth seriously, it will be because of our own desire to do so. And as we lose the neurotic obsession with self, as we become free to grow ourselves, we also free ourselves to love and feel concern for other people. At any rate, whether for ourselves or for others, the ideal is the liberation and cultivation of the forces which lead to self realization_*

If only we had real eduction of life such as this in our American schools. He is right everyone thinks they would be Shindler....but we would almost all be Nazi's because we are so ignorant. We are not taught knowledge or truth.. God Bless, Jordan keep up your journey.

So here Peterson works himself up into a hysteria explaining the pretty obvious and rather facile moral subtext of a story written for children as if it’s a profound discovery of a secret truth. Huh.

For a (soon to be formerly) professional psychologist, he has a weird way of managing his emotions.
