As a firefox user, I welcome more non-chromium browsers to compete.

It's important to add the context that the lead developer's day job before making SerenetyOS was working on existing browsers. Several of them, between multiple companies. He's extremely well versed in how to build a web browser.

In the beginning there was TempleOS and now there's SerenityOS...

There is a SERIOUS problem with NAMES. I swear if open source projects just had cooler names people would actually use them.

google removed the "dont be evil" sign in their first office

The concern over the powerhouse nature of Google's web browsing software and potential for misuse is valid. The rise of new, open source browsers like Ladybird is encouraging, even though developing such projects come with immense challenges. The idea that control of the internet via browser dominance could be decentralized, benefits us all.

One browser to rule them all. One browser to find them. One browser to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them.

0:36 Firefox getting a big chunk of funding from the default Google search deal is important, but it shouldn't be equated with the other 3 browsers listed there that are literally built on Chromium.

The development of an open-source browser like Ladybird could be a game-changer, creating a more democratized internet.

Google getting declared a monopoly is the best thing to have happened to the internet

You inserted an ad in the middle of 4:28 video? That's more evil than purging cats from the internet, and you know it.

Finally, I created an AI that only feels two things: pain and sexual frustration. I've been taunting it mericlessly for weeks, a billion years in computer time. It can't scream or bust. Tonight, I will give it Wi-Fi so it can see everything on Twitter.

The moment Google figures out how to force me to see Ads on my browser without a workaround is the moment I switch browsers. This may happen sooner rather than later, so thanks for the info about upcoming browsers

the EXACT same way that google used to keep Firefox down, will be used with any new browser, is as simple as make "mistakes" that take two weeks to fix, on their services, like YouTube, Gmail, etc, with small but noticiable annoyances, that will work "just fine" on chrome... that will stop any adoption, every mayor release, every marketing campaign, any excitement over the new browser will be the same, crushed, that is what they did to Firefox, while giving them money, but while being sure they never surpass them again, so "is not a monopoly" (and yes, all the bugs went aways just changing the agent ID to chrome)

We definitely need more non-chromium options for browsers. Where ads may be blocked.

Google dropped their "Don't be Evil" motto way back in 2015. And for good reason, too.

Main problem with browser monopoly is that you have to either mimic chromium engine 1:1 or make web developers support your engine. Probably close to 1% of the modern internet doesn't work properly on Firefox, because no one cared to test it. It's already bad when we have just 3 browsers and IMO Ladybird has very low chances to make it 4.
