Haiti interim president: We're on the brink of famine
Показать описание
The interim President of Haiti has told BBC Radio 5 live that the international community is falling short in its commitment to help his countries recovery following Hurricane Matthew.
Speaking from his home in Port Au Prince, Mr Jocelerme Privert said devastating losses from last month's hurricane were equal to the country's entire national budget. Mr Privert said Haiti was facing a "major food crisis" and worsening levels of malnutrition.
"I don't want Haitian citizens to die because of the inability of international assistance," he said.
The Haitian government estimates 1.5 million people are in need of immediate assistance, including more than 140,000 people who are living in temporary shelters.
