Rules for HOV lanes in Arizona may soon change

The transportation department is warning electric car drivers of a potential change in rules for using the HOV lane.

It doesnt matter. 7 out of 10 cars i see using the HOV lane only have one person anyway which i never see enforced. Why have a law if no one enforces it?

Since a lot of roads are paid for by gas tax and EVS don't use gas. Why do they get the privilege of only having to have one person in an electric vehicle?. If they want to use the HOA lane with only one person, have them pay a nice little tax

HOV should be EQUAL for everyone. Given EV drivers a pass is just bias and NEVER should have happened.

We don't need express lanes if all slow drivers stay on the right and fast drivers stay on the left.

We need to get rid of hov lanes period! And start ticketing slow drivers in the fast lane. If you really cared about the environment and traffic. And you don't.

Isn’t the purpose of HOV lanes for reducing congestion, which in turn reduces emissions? While it is a nice gesture to give zero emission cars the privilege, it sort of defeats the real reason why HOV lanes exist. Time to find a ride share with someone!

The point of HOV lanes is to encourage carpooling. Each passenger is one less car on the road. The propulsion system DOES NOT MATTER.

What difference does it make? Every day I see 9 out of 10 gas cars in the HOV lane with only one driver during rush hour. Cops aren't around to enforce this .

Good! Don’t matter if you’re electric, solo driver or Martian, if you’re just another vehicle holding up traffic during rush hour. Frankly, the targets should be SEMI TRUCKS, particularly in morning rush hour traffic, all trying to get downtown. Cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen ONE vehicle holding up entire lanes of traffic, simply bc they refuse to even go the speed limit. And when it’s MULTIPLE semi trucks, that means hundreds, if not thousands of people are going to be late to work. Start putting up the signs that semis MUST USE THE RIGHT LANE (as many states already have) and watch how much better the morning commute can get.

Why would it be ok for an electric car to be in the HOV lane, when they only have 1 person? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose?
