In the last video we celebrated Christmas and New Year together with Nick's family.

In this episode, we take the long road from the Pacific Ocean in Oaxaca to Quintana Roo on the Caribbean coast: 2500 km through the roads of the south of Mexico. On the way we discover Mayans archeological sites like Tonina and Palenque, the beautiful state of Chiapas and its windy mountainous roads, and make encounters that we loved.

The journey is the occasion for our family to discover driving in Mexico and for us all to debrief myth and reality of driving in Mexico. If you have any questions on this leave a comment we will make sure to answer it.

Next week an unfortunate event disturb our travel plans we tell you all in the next episode. Subscribe to the channel to make sure you do not miss what is coming up on this world tour.

See you next week and in the meantime, take care!

It’s good to hear people were friendly and welcoming because here in Europe we always hear how dangerous Mexico can be. I loved the abandoned Mayan fortress you explored with no one there. Hopefully that makes up a little for the crowded misty day in Macchu Picchu .
I’m sitting here with my arm in a plaster and sling having slipped and fell on the marble tiles off the bedroom floor last week and I’m off to see how Nick’s leg is now. How life and plans can change in an instant 😮

Mathilde, vos prises de vue et votre narration sont vraiment top niveau. Rien à envier à vos compagnons d'un moment, Eva ou Olivia. J'ai beaucoup aimé votre description de la culture locale. ☺️

I have an American nephew who lives in Mexico City with his indigenous GF. My sister visited and loved it there, saying that they are very happy in their present lifestyles. I honestly have always been afraid to travel through Mexico, having once had a shocking border experience in Juarez in my youth. Your beautiful travels with family have put me more at ease, and it's gorgeous there, especially the old Mayan ruins that few tourists travel to. The locals also appear genuinely down-to-earth and friendly. But whatever has happened to Nick that put him in a hospital wheelchair? Hoping it's nothing serious. Get better soon!

It's been a pleasure to see places in Mexico that I never visited while I lived there. It is sad that those men were taking advantage of tourists. I'm glad you didn't pay them. Your Spanish is incredible. You both have an excellent accent. Be careful what and where you eat. My father almost died of food poison because of the lack of refrigeration that some vendors lack. Loved this video. Keep enjoying life🥰.

Thanks Mathilde your descrition was simple and straighforward about Chamula. I'm Mexican but I've never have gone to that place, your videos and opinions encourage me to make a similar trip, overall the security issue that seems always be up. Thanks a lot and I hope that Nick recuperate pretty fast.

Wow you made it to what I consider to me to be the nicer side of Mexico. The Caribbean side with the tropical jungles and turquoise waters and white sands.

my roadtrip to Chetumal was in 1996, in Villahermosa I was encouraged to go to San Cristobal, but I didn't. Maybe you have stopped in Palenque nearby in the state, but Mexico has many great places to see and to visit. Enjoy your trip. **yup, you moms are right, the States far away from D.F. generally get the short end of the stick/ Chiapus is getting more revenue direct to farmers and pickers now on Coffee, because more coffee shops are buying direct from the farms now (instead of middle men who take all the profit for themselves), I didn't count the miles on my Road trip, but it was more North South, from the McAllen area of Texas, to Monterrey, down through San Luis Portosi, to D.F. then down to Villahermosa and on to Chetumal, with a slightly different route through Veracruz and Tampico on the return.

I hope Nick is OK. BTW, I found the rope across the road interesting in that it's really not that different from the toll road you used going to Mexico City. They had tollbooths every so many miles. The rope is like an unofficial tollbooth. However, you were right not to pay because then you are encouraging it.

Gosh, fingers crossed that Nick is okay! Otherwise looks like your family journey was wonderful! Mexico is greener and more mountainous than I realized!
