"The first retail worker strike against Walmart has spread from Los Angeles, where it began last week, to stores in a dozen cities, a union official said Tuesday.

Walmart workers walked off the job in Dallas, Seattle, the San Francisco Bay area, Miami, the Washington, D.C., area, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Chicago and Orlando, said Dan Schlademan, director of the United Food and Commercial Workers' Making Change At Walmart campaign. Workers also went on strike in parts of Kentucky, Missouri and Minnesota, he said." *

Fun Fact: I work for Walmart, not a salaried member, am part time and I have health insurance. You get to choose after working for one year as part time whether or not you want health insurance.Part time employees also get personal time and paid vacations. There are a lot of companies that won't offer you health insurance if you are part time. Full-time employees get more benefits but it's almost equal.

I know a walmart worker that stepped on a nail while sweeping, the manager wrote him up for not working safely. they also get in trouble for punching out 1 minute after the shift

I recently graduated from University and while im looking for a job, im working (full time actually) at a wholesale logistics company which ships fruit and vegetables to 75% of all the grocery stores in the county. All i do is pick & pack the merchandise onto a pallet. My wage: $32 an hour.

I worked in a auto-parts warehouse in the middle of summer in Georgia. I have no idea what the temperature was, but there was no air-conditioning, it definitely sucks. Luckily, my employer understood this (he wanted air-conditioning in their but his boss didn't want to pay for it), and he made sure that I had cool water and occasional 5 minute breaks. Because he isn't an idiot, he understood that if his workers passed out it would hurt him more than taking a few precautionary measures.

I will never shop at Walmart (or ASDA so it's called in the UK). It's a disgusting company. Profits should be shared with those who create it.

I couldn't agree more. What would you consider a good rate?

I just quit my job as a bar supervisor. Was earning 16p above UK minimum wage (£6.08) for a job that requires me to deal with disputes from drunk customers and take personal liability for customers who sneak from the restaurant without paying.

If anyone wants to know, my employer was Stonegate Pub Company - the owners of Slug & Lettuce pubs, Flares, Yates's etc. - now the most profitable pub company in the UK

The problem with that idea, is that the consumers must be willing and supportive to private businesses such as that. The consumer is the one that decides the market, and in order for the smaller business to compete they would need to lower their prices to compete.

I'm getting more and more disgusted with these big corporations.

I just quit Best Buy warehouse. My employee discount was slashed to the point where amazon offered a better price. Our warehouse was 10 degrees hotter than the sales floor and we never had a resolution for this. It's a big deal when you're unloading heavy appliances from a truck for 5 hours straight. I had to bring 3 shirts to change every other hour.

What gets me is people say, "Well if they pay their workers more then we have to pay more, Only obecause they are obsessed with their insane profits, they could EASILY raise wages, keep the same prices and still make more money then they could know what to do with.

I worked for Super Target, I was 16-18 years old. One day a customer put words in my mouth(I said southwest phones were low quality and she should upgrade, she said I called southwest phones a piece of shit). Store Manager asked me what my job meant to me. I replied, its a paycheck. She lost it, "A PAYCHECK, A PAYCHECK! IF THIS IS ALL THE JOB IS TO YOU THEN YOU NEED TO RE-EVALUATE YOUR EMPLOYMENT." So I gave my two weeks notice. When I reported for my last check and vacation pay-continued

This is a huge flaw in the trickle down theory that most people ignore.

i'm 20 work at walmart overnight and another job to help pay for college. i live in nashville, and we get paid 8.45, and we can't hire enough people so we must squeeze out about 16-20 hours of work on a 7 and a half hour shift. and we get punished for not finishing by the day shift managers.
some of the older people who worked there said since Sam Walton died, walmart has stopped caring for their employees, they used to get quarterly raises of up to a dollar and now they are once a year.

Should do a comparison between Walmart and Costco. The difference is night and day. Especially in regards to how employees are treated.

they also work 12hr shifts and sometimes make you work a 5th day for 6hrs. Then the following week theyll send you home a couple hours early everyday so they do not have to pay you overtime for that 5th 6 hour work day.
