Binary makes calculating powers of 2 trivially easy, so programs, and compilers, will always try to convert multiplication into additions of powers of 2. CPUs have built-in multiplication, but sadly this never as efficient as recursive addition.

I dont know much about the American (I guess its America) school system, but im curious what type of teacher he is and at what type of school he teaches.
Teachers here in Germany would never be as cool as he is :D

0:55 Actually, the average CPU has a piece of hardware that is specialized for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division (ALU), so that's not 100% accurate
