Rebuilding my crash damaged mini: My first time removing a rear subframe.

In this weeks video we finally start getting our teeth into everything wrong with the classic mini.

We are starting be removing the rear subframe which was pulled up as a dangerous issue during its last MOT.

As well as removing the rear subframe we will also be taking a look at the body of the car to see what rust issues there may be and any potential welding that may need doing.

Subscribed! Even here in the US the mini Cooper is an iconic car. Eager to follow along on the build!

Enjoying this with a coffee over in Canada. Just picked up a solid little 1977 Mini 1000... amazing video, keep them coming!

Saved this vid to watch later, as this is a job I have to do over winter. Looks like a well-filmed channel, so I've subscribed and look forward to your future content!

Great work. I use something called a Pela pump for draining fuel tanks, also good for changing engine oil. Pela pumps are cheap and just suction pump operated.
On the subframe mounts it's hard to believe the previous owners got that through an MoT. Another example of why classics should NOT be exempt from the annual test.
Really enjoying your various journeys!

Try Plusgass (penetrating oil). Much better than WD40. A few doses. Then heat (wipe the oil off!) if persistent. Then strong language if you have not deployed that yet.... Good luck with the rest of it.

Can’t speak for mini parts specifically, but my experience with classic bushes is that modern rubber ones last about 3 and a half seconds before starting to degrade. If you have the choice I’d suggest going with the softest compound poly bushes that you can get.

FYI —- (this reads slightly abrupt, it’s not meant to be -just typed as I watched)
The rubber bushes keep the subframe in (not the radius arms) I’d go for rubber not poly because they’re easier to fit.
The radius arms have bronze bushes - which to wear - they need reaming - easy with the right tool.
You have non standard, adjustable rear suspension, (which would be my choice). Standard and non standard are all held in with the weight of the car not bolts. (The thread in the rubber donut is to compress it - which is required when fitting at the front).
I like the wd40 idea 👍
From experience I’d replace the entire boot floor/valance, you can get repaired panels, but it’s far quicker and neater to replace the whole thing (more expensive though).
I’d also replace the heel board, if it’s not shot at both ends it will be in the not too distant future, and if your doing the boot floor, then half the Job is done.
This will mean new out sills…and before you know it your sorting the entire car… 7 years later.
Good luck, I’m along for the ride 👍

in canada we have something similar to MOT. it's called certification. sometimes previous owners are devious. sucks but all you can do is move on and make her great.
