I whole-heartedly agree with transposing lower. For a long time I hated to transpose because it sounded weird to me after listening to the song so many times in the original key. However, when I finally played the songs lower it increased my ability to do dynamics, control my tone, and make a better performance if I decided to go back to the original key. Plus, as I watched live videos after learning how to transpose I realized how many artists (Jared Leto, Dave Grohl, etc.) are transposing as well.

Chris I need help composing vocally like you do. I'm pretty good imitating what the singer does and I can hit the notes and everything else with precision do to practicing humming notes everyday to my mask for a couple o minutes a day. I find myself I wanna improvise like you do or right out create my own songs when I make sounds trying to come up with something. It never happens my mind is a dessert when it comes to coming up with its own creation. We need vid on this please.

My issue is I don't hear myself being off at all. I can hear someone else being as little as a couple cents off and I can tell when a single guitar string is like 10 cents off but when I sing myself I'll be all over the place, sometimes as much as over a quarter note off in either direction and think I nailed it until I listen back. Have you ever encountered a case like that? I don't think it's a technique issue/strain because it happens in any part of my range

Do you think you could possibly do another video on how to sing like Serj.I think you should check out systems first album and maybe demos.Serj sings with a much grittier tone and he does a lot more growling.Some songs I would recommend you check out if you might do a another serj vid are suite pee, sugar, suggestions, spiders, and blue all great songs

Thanks, my pitch can be all over the place sometimes. I don't think I'm completely tone deaf because I can hear that it's bad when I listen back. I don't know when a note is slightly flat or sharp yet by ear yet and when I'm performing I just don't hear when it's off. It's weird how I hear something differently when I Iisten back to it. Maybe I'm only tone deaf while I'm actually singing haha. 😅 On the plus side, I'm not reaching with my neck anymore.

Hey Chris, thanks for the tip! My struggle with pitch is that I don't actually hear the correct notes in my head before I sing them. I think the technical term is called "Audiation." I can remember music and hear it in my head, I know my intervals extremely well, I can match a pitch instantaneously, but for some reason, when it comes to singing a melody, I can't imagine the next note in my head before I sing, which results in me sometimes singing an entire tone away... Any ideas on how to train my inner ear??
