The 2020 SKODA RAPID was launched with a new BS6 petrol engine to replace its BS4 petrol and diesel engines earlier this year. However, it has only been available with a manual transmission until now. Skoda has now launched the automatic variants of the BS6 Rapid across all trims except base-spec Rider.

The NEW Skoda rapid 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (110PS/175Nm) engine now gets the choice of a 6-speed torque convertor automatic in place of the quick-shifting DSG automatic that was offered on the BS4 diesel model. However, the discontinued 1.6-litre petrol also had a torque converter option.

Th new skoda Rapid is sold in six variants: Rider, Rider Plus, Ambition, Onyx, Style and Monte Carlo.

When Skoda launched the new Rapid 1.0 TSI in May this year, the company was praised highly for slapping an affordable price tag on it. The base model of the sedan, the Rapid Rider, is priced at Rs 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom), and it packs a lot of punch. Not to mention, the Rapid Rider is decently equipped as well.

Seeing this amazing response from customers, Skoda has now decided to launch another variant of the Rapid Rider – it’s called the Rider Plus. As the name suggests, it’s basically the Rapid Rider with some extra kit. It’s priced at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

So, what are the extra bit and bobs in the Rider Plus variant? Well, not many, as it only gets two new features over the base model – a touchscreen infotainment system and window chrome garnish. The new infotainment incorporates a 6.5-inch touchscreen, which comes with Apple Car Play, Android Auto, and Smartlink connectivity options. In comparison, the base Rider gets a 2-DIN stereo. 

Apart from that, the skoda rapid ambition has identical equipment as the Rider. This means that you continue to get automatic climate control, tilt-and-telescopic adjustable steering, rear parking sensors, all four power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear AC vents, foldable key, and more. The safety net is also the same – you get ABS and dual airbags as standard.

The automatic variant offers an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency figure of 16.24kmpl which is 2kmpl less than the claimed fuel efficiency of the manual variant.

 2020 Skoda Rapid ambition is available in transmission and offered in 7 colours : Lapiz Blue, Flash Red, Brilliant Silver, Brilliant Silver, Toffee Brown, Carbon Steel and Candy White.

The skoda rapid 2020 continues to rival the likes of the Hyundai Verna Maruti Suzuki ciaz, Honda City, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen Vento.

The 2021 skoda rapid price starts from 7.49 lakhs for the rapid base variant and goes upto 14.88 lakh for the top variant of skoda rapid .if we talk price of the variant which we reviewed in this video will cost you 7.99 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi.
