In the year since then some functions have been added or vastly improved but does that make it a good option? Let's review Samsung Dex again and guide you through the setup process but this time on the Galaxy S10 to see if if can handle tasks like gaming, productivity and more.

A tip: You can use Samsung Internet too. It uses the Chromium engine, it is fast and by default opens all websites in desktop mode.
Also tip #2: To snap apps to the side of the screen: Hold the Windows key and click the arrow keys to snap left, right, or go full screen(arrow up) or minimize(arrow down). It is exactly the same as the shortcuts in Windows.

I think his expectations are a little too high. Dex mode is not meant to replace PCs and notebooks. At least not yet. But it is a life saver in emergencies. Like when ur notebook crashes minutes before a meeting. Happened to me and I presented my slides right off my Note 9!

DeX Fan here. I am using DeX for past 2+ years. Since S8+ came out, after i switched to Note 9 and now i am all in DeX with Galaxy Tab S6. I have started record videos related to DeX. What DeX can / can't do? Can you game on DeX? Can you get your work done on DeX? You will find all these videos by clicking my logo. I do agree that DeX is not polished and has issues. But not all the issues are DeX fault. As example : Chrome desktop website layout. Every time you need to tick that box. This is down to Google not optimising there android browser for DeX. Chrome browser not detecting that it is runing inside DeX. With Note 10/10+ : some of r/SamsungDeX group members mentioned that it is a bit laggy, not always starting, crashing and ect. I think that this Samsung and Microsoft creation was rushed and not fully tested.

The question most people asking : Is DeX best replacement for PC? I think this is an incorrect question. Question should be, am i ready to learn new thing? I was the same, but after giving couple weeks DeX became my main daily driver.

The purpose of this video seems to be nitpicking about DeX. Not even using Samsung Internet and Samsung email apps. Feels poorly researched.

The reason of the laggy experience or lost of sharpness is because the cable is USB 2.0 and not 3.0 or 3.1 gen 1/2.

@9:50 you don't manually resize anything.... "win" key + left arrow = window snaps to the left half of the display ...

I'm using DeX since I bought my note 8 and I never had those problems with Netflix, lagging or needed to unplug and plug again.

For those who use dex and want to have split screen, you click the background app icon in the navigation bar, press and hold an app it'll ask for split screen, that app would be your primary on the left side of screen. It'll then ask which 2nd app to open on the right. No need to manually resize 2 windows

S8 doesn't require the DeX doc anymore it after a software update you didn't need the dex

I use a DEX Dock with an old (smashed screen) S8+. Using the dock is a much much better setup.
I use a wired connection and wired KB & Mouse.
I connect it to a 25" Wide-screen monitor, and I have to say, after getting used to it, it's a great experience!
It's scary that Samsung haphazardly created this without much thought or dev...
IF they put effort into it; it could be a real alternative to Windows/Mac.

Most of your gripes in the video are understandable, however if you stick with it you'd find some excellent workarounds.
Some of the workarounds are not in fact workarounds - just different ways of doing things.

If you are are directly comparing Dex to other OS's then you'll be starting from a disadvantage. Use Dex for Dex's sake.. It's actually really *really* good.

I'm using Dex to work from home during Covid-19 with no problems.

Instagram doesn't even support split screen or even landscape on android, so that's more likely to be their fault and not on Dex
And i feel like Dex is not supposed to be an all out replaced for PC's, but more like a side use case for what these phones can do

Been using my note 9 as my only computer with the DeX pad, monitor, keyboard and mouse setup on its own desk for the last eight or so months.

100% possible to ditch a PC or laptop especially when paired with a service like shadow PC for all those windows games and apps you can't live without.

Linux on DeX is also very capable on its own but looks to me like development has stopped.

Why on Earth did you not talk about how well Samsung Internet works on DeX? That seems more interesting than how well Chrome or Opera work.

There is Samsung internet, which works perfectly in DeX, I don't know how you missed that if you were really testing.

In Adobe Rush keyboard shortcuts work, but in different keys, so I think P is pause or something like that, you have to try it out, definitely not spacebar like you're used to.

I use Dex on my Samsung Note 9 EVERYDAY at work in 2020 and it's just amazing. It does everything I need.

Another great option is to remote desktop from Dex. I gave my Laptop to my cousin and whenever I really needed "to get something done" I would remote desktop to my Home PC.

The Netflix problem maybe due to some DRM thing. I had a similar problem with NOW TV app.

Since DAY 1, I've always simply viewed Dex as a more "beautiful" file manager (aesthetics-wise) that should be standard on phones.


Think of Dex as sort of like having the Samsung equivalent of iTunes but BUILT-IN to the phone (and no manual syncing required) which makes it way faster/easier to organize your phone's files etc using a mouse and keyboard.
