Fascinating. A treatment suggested by internet strangers that actually works!
Glad to hear you found something that helps.

As a psychologist, I believe all that diagram is saying is that the neurons on your skin that usually send signals to your brain telling your brain that something is wrong and they should react are being blocked by the beta-alanine. It seems to suggest that normally, when water hits your skin your neurons are firing that there is a threat and telling your brain to release histamines, which is usually what causes an allergic reaction.

Because aquagenic urticaria is so rare, we're not sure what causes it so this could be the case, but we're not sure. But your test does give some merit to this being a histamine reaction.

I would venture to guess that if you're feeling a tingling, that this is due to the beta-alanine connecting to those receptor sites. The receptors aren't sure how to react, but this is how your brain is responding to that odd connection that is being made. I don't think it's dangerous, but you might talk to your doctor about it to get their opinion.

Dude, I have the same allergy! My parents won't allow me to go to an allergist to get tested because "it's just because of the chlorine" but last time I checked, I didn't chlorinate my tears and sweat 🤷‍♀️ the summer is coming up, and this is going to save me!!

Interesting, the only other place I have seen beta-alanine is in pre workout supplements before the gym. That's why some pre workouts give you a tingling sensation. Apparently it can help muscles recover quicker before sets as well

That's awesome! I take a pre workout supplement with beta alanine and it used to make my skin tingle too. Eventually the sensation went away but it was about 6 weeks for me, taking it 4-5 times per week.

I have had this thing for more than 30 years and I've tried many remedies.
Taking antihistamines like an hour before a shower works but I didn't like the idea of popping pills everyday.
The simplest remedy turned out to be taking multiple showers a day. It was as if the body got tired of releasing histamine

I HAVE THIS!! It’s mild in my case, so thankfully it doesn’t impede on my life too much, but I’ve always heard there wasn’t enough research on it to really treat it (other than otc allergy medications, which don’t work for some unfortunately). I’m so happy I came across this video, I’ll have to try this out!

Just got it, wish me luck

Edit: It actually works so well holy, I haven't been able to shower since early June and this just erased my itching.

Thanks Josh…
Aquagenic Pruritus has dealt with me for 23 years, antihistamines don’t work.
I will order his medicine right away.
I pray it works for me.

I have had this for 15 years. Beta-Alanine works amazing for this. Just takes some time to get the dosage right. Not enough and it doesn't work. Not timed right and it doesn't work. Take to much and it causes vomiting. Take the right does and you can shower, swim whenever you want.
