Uranus got hit with a -hemorrhoid- asteroid and has to sit on its side to be comfortable.

The south pole is NOT always facing the sun. It faces the sun about a quarter of its year. Another quarter is spent with the north pole facing the sun. For the other two quarters, the sun is roughly halfway between the two, resulting in fairly normal daytime and nighttime... for Uranus anyway.
