The Bafana trademark was owned by a company called Stanton Woodrush for decades. This prevented SAFA from making revenue from the name. They eventually sold to SAFA after the 2010 world cup following public outcry. SAFA paid the company 5 million. I imagine Stanton Woodrush made a killing from the trademark when they still owned it, especially leading up to the 2010 world cup.

Whomever was the SAFA head of legal, and the head of marketing in the early to mid 90s dropped the ball big time.
