Today we are talking about one of our favorite and most-used pieces of gear: the HG Dyneema Hex Tarp. We have had these for about a year and half and absolutely love them. Worth the price in our opinion. In this video we go through the specs and features, as well as our favorite tarp setups.

I have had the 12 foot with doors for three years and have enjoyed it big time. An investment in myself. I need not even know all the numbers...I just go backpacking w/o all the specs. All my friends who rarely hit the rail are huge spec junkies with all their gear. Hike with whatever you have. Just get outside.

That kwik porch mode to storm mode transition was impressive

Great video guys. I am keen to purchase a dyneema tarp, and am curious to know the difference in side wind without the side panel pull outs, in comparison to say my sil-nylon tarp. Does the dyneema have more resistance to (blow in). My sil, nylon really catches the wind like a kite, even in a light breeze. I am however in the process making pull outs for my sil-nylon tarp, and am hoping buying a DCF tarp will have more wind resistance. Thanks so much in advance....bex

Have owned mine for years, w/ doors. Had it up on the Superior Hiking Trail and weathered a very strong wind storm all night long. Steady winds of 20 mph and gusts of 30 + all night. No damage or lose threads/stitching on any attachments. Have deployed it on sled dog trips in severe winter conditions. Years of hard use and crumpled storage and still as good as the day I bought it.

I love how you guys do your porch mode.

Definitely just realized I’ve been doing porch mode wrong. I think I always taken the tie out out of the ground to go back and forth 🤦‍♀️

Solid as usual guys. Making me want to trade out my Sil Nylon 10x10. My wife will appreciate that! hahahaha!

I could not determine what you height off the ground was in "storm pitch" yet if those approaching clouds are dark enough and the wind blowing strong enough...go

Are the line locks larks headed into the corners so the permanently stay with the tarp? Couldn’t tell from the video or still frame picture

If you want a cuben tarp with doors, get the HG Winter Palace.I have this little hex tarp and it's not satisfactory for hammock use in my opinion because the width is only 8 feet.Winter Palace is 10 feet.In wet cold weather you will not miss the extra money for the bigger tarp.

So your tarp is 12' with no doors. I have a chameleon 11' and was considering a 11' tarp with doors and was wondering what you guys thought about that configuration.

Any regrets on green color letting in more light when trying to sleep as opposed to camo?

I'm on Santa's "nice list" and my wife offered to buy a Dyneema tarp. Does a Dyneema tarp benefit from a catenary cut (slightly less weight), or is a flat cut better (slightly more wind coverage)? Typically a cat cut combats fabric stretch, but I'm told Dyneema doesn't stretch.

Great tarp! I like your quick change setup. 12' continuous sideline w/doors. My favorite piece of gear and it should be for that price, right....

Great video. How long is the cordage on the stingers and tieouts?

Just about half the weight, not 3 or 4 times lighter lol. Nice review

I'm cheap. I'll stick with my hammock gear Quest Sil-Poly tarp. It's not much heavier
