Oh Copper, there is so much more to you than what was stated in this brief (yet, always informative) video. Let us count the ways..

The reason anhydrous copper sulphate is white is because the sulphate anions have a very very weak crystalline field (basically they retain their anion state and coordinate very weakly to the copper), so the d orbitals of CuII aren't split enough to produce d-d transitions in the visible range.

In the case of hydrated copper sulphate, the actual chemical species present in the crystal is [Cu(H2O)5]2+ or [Cu(H2O)6]2+ (depending on hydration) and sulphate anions, the pentaaquacopper or hexaaquacopper cations are blue because the H2O ligand has a medium-strength crystal field that splits the energies of the d orbitals and allows d-d transitions in the visible range at around 600nm (orange light), so if orange light is absorbed, the complementary color is seen (blue).

This video deserve the top prize for one of the best youtube video. The transitions between the ideas are flawflessly smooth, the presentation is very well worked, the script is effective and delivered with neutral intonation while the words and the visuals grabs the interest and are beautiful to watch. And i haven't gotten to the voice of the chemist. This is excellent work and you can tell every second of such a video probably requires 10, 000 sec on average to make.

Nice video, once again I learned something new! At the end of the video, you obviously talked about blood, but without the video, i wouldn't probably get it. Doublo O's can be tricky, some of them are pronounced like "o" in "floor", some of them are like "u" in "good", but in "blood" it is "a", similarly to "flood". Hope it helps you for the next time :)
