Love the video. If you don't want two half hitch knots to wiggle out, this is a simple fix: tie the first one in a single direction, say looping the string from the rear towards you. Tie the next knot oppositely, pushing the string from the front to the rear. You have just made the Boy Scout's favorite knot: the unslippable square knot. It will break before it slips.

Couldn't you use some sort of wax paper or ribbon paper to cover the ends/knots so you don thave to cut them?

What is the difference between this type of sewing and using cloth tape or cords in sewing those in like with a sewing frame? Thanks!
