Honestly it's hilarious that irl Wonka is known for its fruity candy over its chocolate

Ironically, the Wonka brand not being ready for the film release saved the film. People didn't have the preconceptions of it being a feature length advertisement and just saw it as a quality film worth rewatching.

i had no idea they removed the wonka branding from these candies. the only one i really cared for as an adult were the bottle caps and those are a very very rare purchase for me.

Fun fact: I talked with an entertainment lawyer from Netflix who specifically worked with Stranger Things. Apparently they did not ask Eggo for permission to use their product, and Eggo didn’t pay to be featured. When making the show, they honestly didn’t think the Eggo thing would be that big of a deal to viewers

The tiny inclusion of the Wonkanite pet flash game finally solved a childhood mystery for me, thank you so much! For forever I had memories of raising a little pink blob in my gradeschool computer lab. But I was never able to remember the name or find evidence of its existance. I would try to google "willy wonka pet game" and all I would ever find was the nerds based games. It drove me insane.

I honestly think Cadbury should be producing Wonka chocolate, as it was Cadbury that inspired Dahl to begin with! The chocolate recipe has changed since Dahl's time tho. I'm a Brit and there is a noticeable difference in the chocolate since Modelez bought them out

I always wished they would have made an edible wallpaper that tasted like fruit. My sisters and I always said that was the most intriguing idea for a product in that if our entire bedroom was fashioned with the appetizing allure of brightly colored fruit we would never run out of the sweet treat lol

My dad worked at Nestle corporation back in the early 2000s and right during the time of the Wonka candy. Looking back some were probably mediocre at best, but my dad always had early access to candy and would bring home tons of treats we couldn’t find in stores. So this era will always be really special to me. Wonka Bars were one of my favorites as a chocolate lover. It was fun & the bits were actual graham cracker as opposed to crisped rice in Crunch Bars (both delicious). & Nerds Ropes will always be iconic imo.

I absolutely love nerds, I was actually quite surprised when I found out they were Wonka candies, like, the actual Wonka Wonka

Honestly, this should have been an easy home run for the candy companies.

I live in the NYC metro, and the big Toys R Us at Times Square (sadly closed December 2015) had a LEGITIMATE Wonka shop (the Wonka shop opened inside in 2010). That place had that Wonka shop, a huge T-Rex animatronic, impressive Lego models, an indoor Ferris wheel, a giant Barbie dollhouse, it had everything. It was heaven for every kid. Growing up, we'd always stop there to get something (usually it was a Lego set like SpongeBob or Indiana Jones) whenever we were in the city, and the store no longer being there and replaced with a Gap and Old Navy just saddens me.

The Reverse Product Placement of Wonka candy is certainly an interesting tale, but what _really_ takes the cake is the Reverse Reverse Product Placement (or would it be Closed-System Product Placement) in _Spaceballs._ One of the conditions of the agreement allowing Mel Brooks to create this now-iconic _Star Wars_ parody was that he couldn’t produce or commission any merchandise to promote the film. In response to this, Brooks created a bunch of official Spaceballs merch to put _in_ the movie itself.

my brother gets marijuana-infused chocolate bars that have the original Wonka labeling. Pretty sure they aren't legitimate, but they definitely capture the whimsical nature of the branding

I still completely believe my theory that the whole golden ticket thing was really just a way for Wonka to kill a bunch of kids to use in chocolate and that Charlie only got the factory so he could get away with it

Ah yes, another masterpiece in my favorite genre of video essay, "author deep-diving into a personal childhood interest of theirs".

One interesting detail is that the red troll creatures from the 3D pyramid game are supposed to represent "Whangdoodles, " a creature from Loompaland mentioned but never seen in the original Charlie and The Chocolate Factory book. These were recurring enemies in the Wonka flash games alongside blobby green floating guys with red eyes who were supposed to represent Vermicious Knids, the main antagonists in Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator.

Feel like this movie gaslit me into thinking the candy was always a thing lol

The weird laugh that played occasionally throughout the 3D maze sounded a whole lot like the laugh of King Boo in Luigi’s Mansion. You mentioned that these flash games came out in 2004, which was just 3 years after the release of Luigi’s Mansion, so perhaps it’s possible that the sound was lifted from that game in an attempt to creep out the player.

The Charlie & the Chocolate Factory soundtrack remains a masterpiece. I mean the decision to make each song a tribute to a different era of music was perfect. Especially for Mike Teavee to show the many things you could watch on TV, but just because you watch TV doesn't mean you know everything, and that TV can be wrong. Also, who wouldn't want to sing about how great your master is while being burned? Elfman's a genius, big respect for him, especially since he had to compose the music for the movie simultaneously with The Corpse Bride. And most of the lyrics are directly from the book!
