I can't help but think that Gaster's experiment involves the dark fountain in delta rune. Since he mentions darkness so much in this entry

imagine if Gaster was actually in the game and you had to hear that every time he talked

FUN GASTER FACT:
His vocals/text sound is actually just voices took out of the file called "abc_123_a" (Wich tells you about NOT telling the Undertale secrets to the internet and community)

After the release of Deltarune, this entry took a whole new meaning. Very interesting.

Ok, so I was playing Delta Rune and I tried to use my cell phone in the dark Kingdom (or whatever, I don't remember the name) and this audio shows up.

Gaster is *definitely* more present in this new game

This isn’t just your everyday darkness. This is ADVANCED darkness!

He could be talking about Deltarune's Dark world and those dark fountains that appeared there.. Also "THIS NEXT EXPERIMENT
SEEMS VERY VERY INTERESTING" very similar line of talking of the person who speaks to you when you create your vessel.

The connection seems very plausible Gaster might even be the Knight that everyone is talking about.

The fact that we can even begin to understand the context of E#17 thanks to Deltarune's release is incredible. Three solid years of theorizing, researching, speculation, spitballing and fanmaking by all of us, yet so much seemed to be missing from the puzzle. We didn't know what E#17 could even be referring to, to the point where many fans thought it was "The Void" being referred to, which isn't even alluded to as being a thing in Undertale, which quite a few fan anachronistically hold on to to this day. We didn't know what Sans's deal was, how he related to Gaster, why he's so powerful, why he bleeds, the purpose of his Workshop, and the whole thing with entering his bedroom. Most perplexingly was the "don't forget" drawing in the Workshop, with the three smiling people on it, which only appears after talking to Clam Girl, which seemed SUPER random. She talked about some girl name Suzy, who was apparently very important, despite not appearing anywhere in Undertale or mentioned anywhere else. For the longest time, that was all we had...until the Switch release, where Clam Girl can transform into a Goner, saying that we're going to meet Suzy very soon. This was our first big clue since Undertale's first update. People were scrambling to figure out that this could mean. Most thought it would be yet another update to Undertale, which in itself would include more Gaster stuff, perhaps even a slight focus on the guy? What we instead got was the official Undertale Twitter going literally dark and replacing its name with 6 black squares, talking in a VERY familiar manner, telling us about something 'very, very interesting' that they want to show us. And thus, the 'SURVERY_PROGRAM' was released, we got the Dark World, a seemingly very separated timeline from Undertale, and a lot of things began to make sense. This is especially so with the added context of the two archived messages from the official Deltarune site, written entirely in uppercase wingdings, quoting E#17 and paraphrasing part of The Legend, and this existed...since December 9th, 2015. Not even three months after Undertale's release, it was under everyone's noses the vast majority of the time until Deltarune actually released. Freaking crazy.

Gaster was just a hipster and was talking about the fan base to Toby and Temmie.

Tell me I'm not the only one who find this is very soothing to hear. I would sit here listening to gaster talk in this way every single time.

Probably the weirdest thing about this whole sequence, and the "garbage noise" is that right at the end of entry 17, you can hear what sounds like someone groaning or exhaling.

That's just really eerie to me. The rest is entirely synthesized, but to hear something so organic sounding right before it cuts out is just strange.

I have my theories, but this comment would be the length of an essay if I added them.

Toby needs to give us some more clues... Not too many, but maybe a teeny glimpse into Gaster's past?

“Photon readings negative”
Negative energy appears in the speculative theory of wormholes

Gaster must’ve attempted to make a wormhole that leads out of the underground but he must’ve miscalculated/the barrier is wormhole-resistant and he ended up where he is now!!!

Perhaps the broken machine in Sans’ garage could be the machine gaster used to open said wormhole...
