Take Off with Polar 5

In order to conduct research in the inaccessible, ice-covered regions of the Arctic and Antarctic, AWI relies on its research aircrafts Polar 5 and 6. These two Basler BT-67 planes have been specially modified for flying under extreme polar conditions. This short film takes you on board Polar 5 during the PAMARCMiP research campaign in the northeast of Greenland. During this four-week expedition in spring 2018, an international team of researchers studied how the Arctic is changing. Polar 5 Captain Bill Houghton and First Officer John Marshall from Kenn Borek Air will tell you what makes the converted DC-3 Polar 5 a perfect research aircraft and how they support research in some of the most remote regions of our planet.

Todos los años en los meses de octubre los espero con ansias, ellos por lo general aterrizan en MRLB para re abastecer combustible, es increíble verlos despegar y verlos en el aire!

Hat das AWI eigenes Wartungspersonal für die DC-3‘s?

When passengers are on board, is it so loud that they have to have communication equipment, or can they relatively speak and hear? I'm writing a screenplay and need to know this. Thanks.

Früher hatte das AWI da noch eigene Piloten. Das ist wohl mittlerweile zu aufwändig und man lässt das lieber die Kanadier machen.
