Brooks quote: "we have the finest educational system in the world". 😂😂😂😂
Nonsense, the USA is ranked circa 22nd out of 24 most developed countries in the world.
If the US educational system is so good, why does US industry need so many Euopeans and Asians who can do maths?. This is gas lighting.

I do not agree with Brooks, that the US has the greatest educational system in the world.

As usual, the only progress being made is the rich is getting richer

In Idaho the effects of fossil fuels was removed from the science curriculum. The governor signed a law banning CRT and related issues in the schools including college with the threat of denying state funds. So it's not improving here.

Lovely program to watch. If only Joe can let the Lady next to him speak. It is either he lives his own voice or thinks lesser of her. I have listened on a few ocassions and her comments are very sensible. Maam, you should approach your producers about hosting your own show. You will do very well.

Since December 2019 to December 2021, 42 trillion dollars were generated in wealth of which 42% went to the top1% and 37% went to the bottom 99%, so inequality is still rising in unprecedented numbers and so is homelessness

Well he can AFFORD too have this point off view, he's not eating out off a trash can while living in a tent !!
A lot off Americans who had low paying jobs, living week to week got shafted by covid 19, both with their lives and losing their rentals !!
When one lives week to week. It only takes a week to lose EVERYTHING !!

Until those who are responsible are brought to justice there can be no reconciliation, or healing in your country. Your political system needs to be rebuilt, with checks and balances put on to deal with those who would take advantage of the loopholes that they can use for their own advancement. Without these you will never be able to deter the open corruption in your society. A pollyana outlook will do nothing to deter those who would take advantage of the system you now have in place.

I pretty much abandoned posting anything political during the last 6+ years due to how much darkness as been seeping through the American political ethos for reasons I need not mention. At one point I was even among the volunteer staff of moderators at a political group at Facebook of over 200K members. But I'm commenting on this interview of David Brooks for while clear-eyed and not denying said seeping, he offers an equally clear and grounded optimism about this country. That I'm a life-long left-of-center Democrat born of an FDR Dem father is irrelevant, and I have not always agreed with Brooks. But I don't care who is what (D, R or I), I value inclusive integrity.

We still have homeless and unaffordable health care. We are still stupid for sure. When you have examples right in front of you that would solve your problems and you refuse that is the very definition of stupid.

I am a David Brooks fan. But I am a Vegan and in a world of Human-Population-Pollution. We have never been "here" before.

I saw you and Capehart on Judy Woodruff (?) news, which has nothing to do with this topic! But anyway, I thank you for your positive outlook on the future of United States.
But to my way of thinking we're in bad shape. Still, I hope you're right.

There's a disconnect between what these folks are saying and what I see. The people around me are living paycheck to paycheck. Health issues or car repairs are frightening things that can create homelessness. I love that there is reporting on things that are good or improving. Just not sure what they are saying applies to the average person.

Brooks is the textbook model of an affluent, entitled never did an honest day's work white man. He lied for Cheney, Rumsfeld etc.

America is considered to be the best country in the world. No body says that about China or Russia. America has many flaws but Americans are open people and willing to discuss and improve and change. As Churchill said, "Democracy IS messy, but that is the best form of government". God bless America!

Brooks and Scarbourough both played their part in the lead up to our current problems, so it’s funny to watch them do the Pollyanna thing.
