Ended my 128 game streak. Glad to see I'm in good company.

I died in Hard Mode Heck as well with Folly and Golly.

29% of Wordle players missed Jolly making it the second hardest Wordle so far. Only Parer, missed by 48%, was more difficult. Jolly's average score was 5.6 guesses and over 50% got it in 5 or 6.

It has the same pattern as the infamously difficult “Jazzy”, and while “l” is a common letter and “z” is rare, Jolly has hard mode hell issues.

Legal solutions: Dolly, Folly, Golly, Holly, Jolly. Folly is the only previous solution.

Legal guesses: Colly, Lolly, Molly, Polly, Tolly, Wolly.

I was saved by Moldy:

taLes > moLdY > HOLLY > JOLLY

Hard-mode streak: 323

Cost me my streak, too. Cruel world! 😢

This killed my current maximum streak of 271! I usually start with the word SCENT, but right now I'm trying my own sequence of openers. I started this one with KNOLL, which was actually quite lucky! But still couldn't pull the lever to solve the -OLLY problem.

I got super lucky with JOINT as my first guess; everyone else I know lost their streak.

I was lucky.
ASIDE -> COURT -> BONGO -> POLYP -> JOLLY....
But this did kill the streak for 19% of all players

If it was time for my streak to end, I'm glad I went out on 303 instead of 297. SLATE, DILLY, FOLLY, GOLLY, LOLLY, HOLLY

Mark’s opening word sequence in full:

AMBER ANGEL BLACK BLIND CLING CLOWN CORAL CRAMP CROSS DEVIL GLOBE GOOSE HOUND JELLY LEMON LOOSE PILOT QUEEN QUEER RAZOR ROUND ROYAL SCALD SCALE SHELL SNAIL SNIPE SPADE SPEAR SPIKE STING STOCK STONE SWORD TIGER TOOTH TRUNK TRUNK WHITE WRECK

Theme: Words which fit the pattern or fish”, alphabetically

And that’s the end of the sequence! And a pretty long one at that

That’s a tough word with many streaks killed. Next up, we begin anew with a new unknown series of starting words.

Yup. Broke my streak too. Sometimes hard mode is cruel!

While Americans would understand it as short for "lollipop", LOLLY is distinctively British slang. I’ve noticed it’s not accepted in the NYT Spelling Bee. It would be very unlikely to be a Wordle solution, though it could be in the *much* broader class of legal guesses. (BTW Brits, don’t expect to use NAPPY in Spelling Bee either, the American adjectival use is now considered a slur for describing African American hair.)

The commitment to making a sentence of them nevertheless! ❤

First time I’ve failed a wordle. At least I was never able to get a massive streak since every few months I miss a day.

Ended up guessing 5 different olly words none of which were Jolly

I went with JOLLY as my final guess solely because J is such an uncommon letter and squeaked through in 6.

This was maybe the toughest wordle of this year. Only 68% could solve it.

Maybe someone will look for this in the comments too: Mark lost the streak of 19.

On the plus side, at least you didn't have a long streak to protect anymore

This one ended my streak of 86, which is not that high but I was proud of. Oh well.

Oh no, Mark! This killed four streaks in my circles. Now five. 🙁
