Scythe - How To Play

CORRECTION: You MAY build a structure on The Factory.
CORRECTION: From the FAQ: The first two sentences on the right column of page 11 (Moving into Opponent-Controlled Territories/Controlled by Workers) should read, “If your character or mech move into a territory controlled by an opponent’s workers (and no other units), its movement ends (even if you have a mech ability that would allow it to move further). Each of the opponent’s workers on that territory immediately retreats to their faction’s home base, leaving behind any resource tokens.” This reflects the original intention of the rule, which allows a player to move a character/mech into a territory containing opponent worker(s), force those worker(s) to retreat, and then move a different unit through that territory.

I just got scythe, looked at the rulebook, and thought, "I hope Rodney made a video for this." Thank you!

My brother got this game and gave me this video as "homework" to prep me for our first playthrough

This is my first time watching one of your videos and I was very impressed with how in depth and clear your explanations were

These are the clearest teaching videos on any subject I've ever seen. The guy has an uncanny knack for presenting the info in exactly the right sequence so you never feel lost or overwhelmed. Made my hobby so much better.

You're a lifesaver, Rodney! Game just arrived today and I've already burned the instruction booklet. Great job!

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your videos. My family and I used your video to learn the core of playing Scythe. It made it easy to understand the game, and then only have to reference the manual as needed. It was a success, and the game was very enjoyable. I also appreciate your honesty, and correcting your mistake on the factory section. I know the work, time and effort it takes to make a video of this quality, and I appreciate your effort!

I used this resource to learn the game, and it was absolutely pivotal in learning it quickly.

I *really*, *really* wish you had a segment that went over the Automa (Solo revision). I know why, in most games, it's not essential, but the Automa is almost a game within a game, and there's nobody better at explaining board games than you.

This is such an amazing game. Thank you Rodney for making this so accessible to the masses! Running this at game night tonight and thankfully I could go back and watch this as a refresher.

I just bought the game cause of all the amazing reviews. Then I opened the box and was dumbstruck. The rule book is as thick as a magazine. I watched the entire video (very well done, thank you very much), and now I’m utterly overwhelmed. Kind of intimidated to play it, honestly. I’ve never seen such a complex board game in my life! Who comes up with this stuff? I think it’ll take me a month of playing it every day just to learn now. Sheesh!

Wow, Rodney. I just watched this for the second time in preparation for my game group next week. Your videos are far and away the best how-to-play videos around. Truly amazing. Keep up the great work!

Honestly, there's something very relaxing about watching Rodney explain everything.

This is the first Watch It Played video I've watched, as I find reading the rules works much better for me than listening/watching someone explain rules. Nevertheless, this was well worth my time and will definitely be helpful as I read through the rules myself tomorrow when the game arrives. I definitely appreciate the time and effort that went into making this video, and it was very well produced. Great job.

Thank you, I read the rule book twice before I found this video and your instruction was infinitely more helpful.
Sometimes, game makers need to evaluate the order in which they present the rules of the game.

dagnabit Rodney... you did it. You made Scythe legitimately interesting to me. I like big fancy games as much as the next guy but I thought this was just another big fancy game. Now I actually want to make it happen. I generally try to resist Cult of the New because there's a lot of games I know of only by name and even more that I've never heard of, still I now mildly regret not backing this.

I wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway but I would have wanted to.
