The varnish on the painting of the crying boy was pretty much fire proof. Also, there are many people who have had this or another variation of the crying boy in their house without a single issue.
There were only a couple of unlicky incidents, but since they were reported on, people took those stories and ran with them.

My grandma have one of the crying boy painting in a room- but this one is wlack and white (a copy i gess-)

The small kid painting one its really true and my whole family experienced it...if u dont believe so dont because i dont care unless and until i see its picture i still get goosebumps....few years ago we just moved out from our old house and shift in new house and near that building was no any pther house...it had a big garden and childs play area like swing and slides and then it had 4 bedroom and 1 hall and a kitchen and there were many paintings in hall and one was that child one first when we moved there nothing had happened and then the real thing happened on few days after that while it was midnight like 1 or 2 am and i was doing my assignments and i felt a sudden dryness in atmosphere it felt like ur mouth is getting dry and then i went to kitchen for grabbing water bottle while i was in kitchen near refrigerator i felt some weird cry of a small child from hall then i glanced in hall then i saw that painting literally moving its eyes i was first shocked and ran towards my bedroom then next day i didn't told anyone cause i felt that it was hallucination but next incident was soo much creepy it was 1 am and i was sleeping while i sudden felt knock at my door and then when i opened the door i didn't saw anyone i went to the bed and then again somebody knocked then i went to my parents but they were deep asleep same with my grandma, then i went to my room and i was trying to sleep then i heard continuous knock on my window i was so scared cause how is it possible i was on 3rd floor i removed curtains of window after the thing happened was so horrifying i saw through window and there was small child with blonde hairs crying in the garden and then immidiatly it ran away to the woods near by and while i was watching him suddenly my rooms door was forcefully opened i screamed soo loud that my parents and grandma rushed towards me then i told them everything after that they calmed me down and i slept with my grandma that day but things didn't stopped here my parents and grandma also experienced crying of small boy from hall and even my grandma saw boy with a blonde hairs same as in the painting running in hallway and disappeared out of nowhere and one day we decided it to burn that painting and we also did it in garden we finally felt relieved and once we went to sleep that night and in middle of night i woke up by loud noise in attic it was like thumping and screaming of little boy i called my parents and grandma and went in attic and saw a large fire was on attic my father rushed to grab extinguisher and grandma for water i took blankets and we finally succeeded to off the fire but after the thing we saw was real shock i was sooo scared my parents were not believing there eyes cause it was same painting we burnt in garden and still after large fire in attic everything was burned but that painting not had and damage we immediately packed out things next day and moved to another house...after 4 years nobody in our house discuss that incident, we all were int trauma after that incident and still that blonde haired boy from painting appears in my dreams oe....

Well it was found that the little crying boy was made with a paint that was inflamable. But...people still can't understand the house fires none the less
