I once read that capybaras will “bark” to inform the group about a potential threat and they’d go into the water for safety. You can see the second capybara barked at 0:03 (it wasn’t the dog!), and I believe the largest male got out of the water to chase the dog away because the dog was coming too near and was showing predatory behavior. The capybara was showing a territorial behavior to defend its pack, but it also must be very used to dogs ady because it seems confident and assertive instead of startled and jumpy. It’s great to see and enjoy nature so up close. I love capybaras and dogs. Thanks for sharing this video ❤️

My favorite animal to read about in elementary school…..back in the 70’s.
I was jazzed to see them in Florida last year on vacation. Seems they were accidentally introduced to the area. I don’t think they are destructive but are just chill and get on with their low impact lives.

I would say that this is rare footage of a Capybara "losing its cool" but even when they run they do it in a cool "Sup bro?" kinda way. I personally feel they should all be born with sunglasses on.
