Opioid Management for Chronic Pain

This video is appropriate for those that have been prescribed opioids for managing chronic pain or those who have been prescribed opioids for over two weeks, even for those who have been taking opioids for months and even years (as medicine is constantly changing). There are new federal and state requirements (such as the Opioid Agreement) as the risks become greater when opioids are taken long-term. Six tips to keep everyone safe (including your family pets) are shared, along with the need for compliance and signs of opioid misuse. The benefits of taking opioids and setting goals of therapy are also considered.

If you feel that you are experiencing the warning signs of addiction, please talk to your clinician as there are ways to treat opioid addiction, which can be a complication from taking opioids even as prescribed for some patients. Another valuable resource is to call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357), which is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Please fill your prescription for Narcan® (naloxone HCI) nasal spray once a year, which can reverse an opioid overdose. Naloxone saves lives!

Yeah, let's see what you say when one of you or your loved ones has to deal with chronic or severe pain. They went from handing them out like candy to "no amount of pain calls for an opiate" Why does it have to be one extreme or the other? The DEA doesn't even have a single doctor or other medical expert in their agency.

"When your body begins to crave, and need, the medication." This is what the video says is the definition of "addiction." it is not. That statement is _crazy._ If you have high blood pressure, your body needs, and craves, the medication that is prescribed for high blood pressure. No-one says you are "addicted" to that medication. No-one. Only if is an opioid does some idiot say your need, or desire for it, is addiction. If you have pain, and opioids help you deal with the pain, needing the medication to deal with the pain is obvious. Desiring it is good sense. *It is a useful evolutionary advantage to desire drugs that help you survive.*

"These items are not meant to punish you or limit your pain control" yet that is precisely what they everyone knows it. For those on signed management contracts I recommend you review them carefully. You WILL FIND that those contracts are written to allow Dr's to terminate you FOR ANY REASON they choose to. It does NOT have to be any of the listed reasons.

In South Texas you can only get Tramadol which wasn't even Classified as a Narcotic until 2014 and is still over the counter in many countries... After 3 Discectomies, 3 Total Right Hips (Crushed Pelvis with both Hips broken and mal union) I moved from Colorado south for better weather... (Ground Zeroed by F-4 Tornado in 1996) I was reduced from 100 MME's to 30 and losing control of my Pain, I am largely bed ridden...
When I got here a year ago I packed and moved without help but since then I'm really needing a wheel chair just to ambulate after such a long time just squirming around in bed... Pain Drain Death is a reality now in this Texas Heat for me and now my kids have to watch my deterioration. Where's the Love??? Compassion??? When Doctors receive their credentials from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Medicine has become a Fast Tract to the Millionaires Club... This isn't even the same world my Kids grew up in!!!

Pain meds should be legalized! Especially if you have documented debilitating progressive painful disease there's no cure for there should be no questions asked !
It's humiliating getting your pills counted, being treated like a criminal when your fighting a painful disease.
Dr's shouldn't be making sick people suffer!
My Son Suffers horribly everyday all day long, laying on ice packs, trying to get some relief from the pain and swelling. 😢
From the treatments my son that's 26 lost all of his teeth had 35 removed nothing for pain. It's hard to watch someone you love suffer, it's not right and something needs changed!

It's so hard to get fast acting opioid prescription pain relief now. I'm afraid of having surgery because I may not have appropriate pain management. Pitbull attacked me last year and locked on my rear calf before she's was nawing on me. Pieces of my flesh were scattered on my clothes and the ground. Ambulance took me to the hospital and all they gave me for pain was Tramadol and it didn't help at all. This change in law was poorly orchestrated with more bias in mind than true attention to sincerely helping

I was told that not passing the urine drug screen is a violation of the pain agreement. The doctor said that he would wean me off, in spite of severe pain, if I could not pass the confirmation. I did pass it, and was allowed to keep my opioid meds. But guess what? The failed screen is in my permanent record and counts as a strike against me, because it's still a violation of the agreement. Three strikes and I will be out.

This is the thing that drives me nuts. Here we are paying the doctors bills. He/she isn’t paying mine. They totally forget that we are the boss not them. I went into a new pain Doc. about a year ago. I walk in and see this guy standing over this poor black woman who was in tears just kicking her a** all over that waiting room. I looked at my wife and she was furious. She does Cat scans at a large teaching hospital and loves her patients. She looked at me, I handed her my paperwork and went over and grabbed the woman’s hand and looked at the doctor. I didn’t have to say anything. These docs know they have complete control over us. This makes them able to talk to us like dogs. They think we have to sit an take it……..Sorry about the rant, Just frustration I guess. You have the best job in the world. Trucking is a great job.

Since they cut me off pain medication I went from being functional to bedridden and in a wheelchair, started smoking as I don't want to even live anymore.

Broke my back at age 15. I got my license and first job the next year working after school delivering pizza. I'm 51 now and never stopped working. A friend gave me a couple of meds and the relief changed everything. Now I'm still barely able to finish a shift. If you can relieve my pain and don't then you're not helping me. PT doesn't help all the other pain that comes with my chronic pain. So now I guess it's up to me to find relief on my own, which is dangerous. Should I be depressed and unable to move or be able to smile and move again? This gets worse all day everyday.

All these supposedly understanding "RULES FOR PAIN PATIENTS" ARE JUST A POLITICAL PLOY TO TELL PATIENTS THAT YOU ARE DRUG ADDICTS AND WE KNOW WHATS BEST FOR YOU AND YOUR PAIN. RATHER THAN FOCUSING ON THE ABUSERS, IT IS EASER TO PUNISH THE ONES WHO WILL BENEFIT. Twisted political driven logic !!!

I have been taking Norco for about 3 months now for severe left flank pain. I have to take a 5-325 every 4 hours as needed to keep the pain away. I have been taking it around the clock, because when the 4 hour mark rolls around, the pain starts to come back. Is it normal for the pain to keep on coming back, or should 1 or 2 doses per day solve the problem?

Evidence please. Safety? Not meant to punish? I beg to differ.
