Genmitsu RENO 4040 CNC After a Year

Review of the Genmitsu RENO 4040 CNC after a year's use with no modifications (yet).

i filled every orifice with sand, and Ive added a layer of 2040 extrusions under the bed (which lifts it off its feet but that's ok), I added Aircraft Vibration Dampening tape along the Y axis rails, on the spindle mount, along the gantry, and basically everywhere I could, And lastly I upgraded to a 500w Brushless Spindle and PSU, (only spins 12, 500 sadly)

Now with those upgrades, I am doing basically any wood at around 2mm depth @ 1400mm/min / 1/4"/6mm 2 flute upcut with great results, and I can do Aluminum @ about 1mm depth @ 400mm/min and using a basic clearing climb milling toolpath. I can speed it up a bit if I use an 1/8" for this.

My only complaint is the x axis single nema17 cannot hold the straight line when doing fast hard cuts in the Y axis, So I am going to add another twin stepper beside the current gantry stepper, programmed on the 4th axis to match and hopefully get a better hold, ,

This was my first CNC after a long line of lasers and printers. 6 months later and I am VERY GLAD THEY OFFERED THIS UNIT AT THE PRICEPOINT it currently is as I could have never been able to enter this experience without it!!

Moving forwards I am going to add ball screws all around on supported linear rails and hope these nema17 can hold up to the job, Id also like to add a 1.1=1.5kw spindle.

I see that on the Sainsmart website, they offer an upgraded hybrid aluminum/MDF spoilboard... for an extra cost. Of course, they won't just fix the problem and make it standard equipment.

I’ve been toying with the idea of one of these. You could stiffen your spoil board by adding the 20x20 or 20x40 aluminum extrusions. Pretty reasonable on Amazon. I just bought a couple 20x40x400’s for about $30 I think. Going to use them on my 3D printer expansion.
