From a fellow Coloradan, I so appreciate Emily's question! Me too, Emily! These videos/podcasts have been so helpful to me. I go out almost every week and just keep trying, changing up my rig, practicing, and yes! just learning, learning, learning out on the water.

I've got the same fly tying book that's on your shelf by Jack Dennis, 'western trout fly tying' . Got it in the late '70s for an Xmas gift along with my first fly tying kit, I was around 16 years old, living in Montana. Still have them both! Now, since living in Northern Indiana, I've gotten into tying crappie jigs...

The "Oros" type indicators are good. Sometimes you drop the top or bottom 1/2 and it floats away before you can reach it. I use them and I like them. BUT, the DORSEY YARN INDICATOR is a GREAT weapon to have in your vest/pack. Use a med 1/4 in ortho rubber band and polypropylene yard or EP fibers. They recommend 4 wraps, but on 6x I use 5-6 wraps.

Just found you guys. You mentioned the lower Provo. A guy named Dallas taught me how to fly fish @ Vivan Park. He was wet wading without shoes in the dead of winter. Love the content! - Madison from Texas

GREAT video Spencer! I would add, usually the SEAM (where fast water meets slow water) is also where the FORM LINE is. FOAM IS HOME.

I fish the lower Provo every week and have for 3 years. On average I catch 1 fish per 4 hours of fishing….doing what everyone who “knows” how to fish that river. I bring 3 rods with me every time I go fishing. A standard 9foot 5wt for a split shot rig, a euro nymph setup, and a streamer rig. Usually switching between them every couple of hours, this river is disgustingly over-fished. And does NOT have 3000-5000 “catchable fish” per mile….its more like 200-500.
