People who say Practical is always better don't know much about VFX, for sure.
Both practical and CG have pros and cons. CG sometimes looks too CG when it is cheap, and Practical effects (animatronics) look very stiff sometimes, with lots of movement limitations.
Blending both is the best way, no argue about that one, saying that always practical is just a simple-minded/ignorant silly comment.

firstly the design is perfect mwa chef's kiss, and the costume well it's supposed to look kinda weird since the f4 moovie is supposed to take place in the 60 or 70 ies
