I firmly believe that if a child isn't mature enough to understand or appreciate such issues, they will simply go over their heads. If I a child is mature enough to understand such issues, schools can help them understand these issues. Banning books is counter productive and stupid.

This book was assigned for 8th graders! There is nothing in her honest and truthful experience that should be embarrassing to a young teen reading her story. If it becomes uncomfortable, they can read and discuss it with their parent. Stop banning books!!!!

I read that book when i was young and it was such a good book. What better way to teach about one of the most horrific historical events than through the eyes of a child going through it? They are so afraid of everything and want to control it.

So Anne was just a normal teenager, curious about her changing body and budding sexuality. Hardly worth censoring, just keep it age appropriate if need be.

I read the book at 9 years old and it alerted me to fascism and dictatorship. I consider it history.

I am Dutch (i.e. Netherlands/Amsterdam). We have a lot of different schools and religions. Although there are about 800 gods and over 2000 religions right now, I don’t think all of them are “represented” in The Netherlands. Here in The Netherlands, everybody is free to go to any public library and to read any book, (even the bible, that contains a lot of (very weird) sex). We are not allowed to possess weapons. So we are not free to shoot at each other, but we are free to discover ourselves at every aspect of our life. I think that that is a very precious “gift”.
