It is actually true :) Nice lead in.
The pH effect is a pleasant extra effect. It's nice to see clickbait title that's completely accurate. And speaking from personal (painful) experience, you can actually overdose your system with Ca as easily as swinging the Alk too far... I was stupidly using Kalk to boost pH & only measuring the Alk for my own heavy Kalk dosing regime, and it took me awhile to realize that I had overdosed Ca. Oddly, it was my Scolymia's which died off first. And I didn't realize what I had done until they were past saving.

Don't get me wrong, I still dose Kalk and I still love that it boosts my pH over night. But, that was the consequence of my own chasing pH. It, as you specifically mentioned, can go poorly if the intent is solely chasing pH without properly monitoring the rest of the chemistry as well.

To put it in numbers. I lost $1, 200 in Ultra grade Scoly's by misusing a $40 container of Kalk. And I specifically said "Misusing", because that fault is mine, not the Kalk. It did exactly what it's supposed to do chemically.

Though there are a lot of great Kalkwasser videos on YouTube, your series really is the most informative and consumable (and entertaining!).

Reef Dork- Loved the way you did this video. Beautiful coral shots while talking about Kalk. Can’t get any better. Thanks you for your contribution to this epic hobby!

I use kalk to peg my pH at 8.35 my dkh went from 7.5 to 12 and i've had only benefits. I'm convinced DKH is only important when you have wild pH swings. my doser able to keep it at 8.35 24/7

I had pH in the range of 7.8-8.0 and I used Kalkwasser to get up to and stabilize at 8.2 pH. The timid filefish and fox face just seem way happier/healthier and swim in the front of the tank even if my face is 2 inches from the glass (they would mostly hide and keep to themselves before Kalk with or without me near the tank). The eyes became crystal clear on my fox face; I used to think fox face just normally had a slightly cloudy eyes (and others reported the same with their fox face rabbit fish and agreed me it was normal on forums). Now I believe it was an issue with suppressed pH of 7.8 - 8.0.

pH is more important than alkalinity. Chris Meckley from ACI has stated this numerous times. His alk went up to like 12 he said. I think things have turned the corner with alk not being more important than pH.

Been using kalk slury for last year and only one thing I keep stable is Ph and don’t monitor Alk at all . My alk in the morning is 7.4 and in the evening 6.5, SPS never been better .

Nice breakdown. You difinately
put in the work on this . Thank you !

I was dosing high amounts of Kalk and had my kH bouncing around all over the place with no negative effects. However, I have backed it off and taken a similar route to what you suggested.

I have a stable kh-ca and it incrase ph and lower phosphat ..best thing is to use kalkwasser + balling is the best thing what you can do ..

I need to get my pH up and Alkalinity down. It's quite difficult. 😢

Excellent presentation, yet again good Sir. Stability is indeed the key. My question is about regular test kits besides Hannah instruments. Which brands would you recommend for Nitrates and Phosphate levels as well as for Alkalinity.

greetings. thanks for the information. As I am a new reef aquarist I do not understand many things but thanks to the information you share it is very helpful. I will wait for the next video. sorry for my bad english 🤣

Chris Meckley at ACI says otherwise✌🏻

I don’t think the answer is as simple as you’re making it seem.

I've just started dosing kalk, but not dosing 2 part just yet, my dkh is 8.2, now was 7.9 dkh before i started dosing kalk, calcium is 420, mag 1380, with Ipc test once a month, 😊, my pH was 7.8 and struggling to get above 8, during day now its 8.2, through the day and down too 7.8 over night,

Watch Chris Meckleys interviews and used these methods for years before Chris started pushing his methods and I can say it works well

Wouldn’t the increase in OH anions from kalkwasser increase the pH alone?

Dork your technically wrong :( ph is very important as it increases calcification of coral skeletons and when you do this you will need more kh as uptake will go up so Kalkwasser is an awesome way to maintain ph and kh :)

Stop showing us your beautiful reef tank, you're putting my 7 month old tank to shame 😅

Great informative tutorial, I might start dosing kalkwasser in my setup, though is Kalk compatable with a neptune trident/dose, thinking of getting one, once I can afford it...
