Tips for plasma....get a drag nozzle so you can drag the tip on the metal. Also, use a straight edge as a guide to drag your tip up against.

EMILY!! - and A-A-Ron
I fully understand the desire to keep as much 60+ year-old Chevrolet metal as possible. I would without hesitation replace the entire trunk pan. Stronger, easier, more continuity as well as ascetically pleasing, and it'll allow for a big fuel tank/cell as well. That spare tire tub always looked goofy to me from under the vehicle. My vote: FULL PAN!!

Put in the full pan in the rear if you can. It keeps the structure more stable. My opinion.

Something I was told is the pulse setting " T2" makes it easier for thin metal, doing a great job, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones

Hi guys...Aaron and Emily...go full pan in trunk. I know I am talking to a wall here but the laser I have suggested in the past is the ticket here. Doesn’t matter, have fun and stay safe.

You two are doing a great job on restoring the 57.

You're my freaking hero. Just changed two front tires on my 25 year old Snapper mower. 4.10/3.50 x 4
Thought it would be a nightmare, but it went incredibly easy.

Yes guys, undercoat it! Sound dampening is the best!!! And besides, it's the underside and only the road will see it!!! :) As for the plasma cutter, I've always tried to find a piece of scrap metal to put next to what I was cutting and let the torch follow it to make the cut straight as possible, kind of like using a ruler to draw a line. Piece the trunk in, unless you feel like replacing the whole thing!

Clean up the welds by blending in seam sealer over them. Also patching the trunk will be so much easier, but if you're up for the challenge of bracing the rear up good, you can go for the whole trunk floor. Keep making us rookies at doing this proud!!

I loved seeing the Kid get her proper introduction and recognition of her hard work. Y'all are making wonderful progress on the build.

It's easy to see that Emily likes using the Plasma Cutter.

Your PPE looked pretty cool there with all the colors, textures and contrast. That's a good shot to hang on the Shop wall.

Your friend Dan at DD Speed Shop would replace the full trunk floor pan. His advice would be to align the body on the frame mounting points and then add the new floor pan using the frame to body mounting points so the body works.

Thank you for the content. It is Good Folks like Y'all that inspires the average home mechanic some extra confidence to take on bigger projects.

Great job guys, that floor is really starting to look great. I’m fortunate that the floor on my 57 for the most part is pretty clean, I would say at least 80% original paint but I can appreciate the amount of work to clean it up and applying the rust encapsulator. Definitely go with the full trunk floor! Have a great weekend! Kudos to the kid for helping out too!

Hi Aaron & Emily, my recommendation would be to replace the whole panel, you will end up with a much cleaner & structurally sound outcome. Can I also suggest giving the Tig welder a go at welding it in, once you get used to it you will love it.

understand the new tool box. If it works, it works. I remember in 87 when half a vista cruiser was sae and the rest metric. To exchange belts, needed bot, found myself using both, especially when rust or coatings got in the mix. Love you guys, wrench on.

Gosh man the kid is a wonderful young lady, my “the kid” is about her age and is slowly starting to get into cars and bikes like me. It’s so awesome she likes working on stuff with you guys. It’s priceless memories like I shared with my uncle whom I attribute all my mechanic skills to. 😊
