We have more rust on this 1984 BMW 318i e30 than we know what to do with. So we'll get to work to repair all this rust. We start by cut all the bad parts out, create replacement 22 gauge pieces, spot weld them in, and sand everything. Before you know it this BMW will be a nice restored blank canvas for our build.

Jeeeesus man, why not just cut the floor pan out at that point? You're going to spend years puzzle piecing it together, and the more welded area will give more area for oxidization. On the jeeps we work on, floor pans are a common rust spot and it's waaay easier to just cut the old pan out, spot weld and seam seal a new one in.

I’m so glad I have all this now completed on my e30, good work!

Just wonder was it not possible to cut and replace bigger pieces instead of playing with tiny bits

‘84. Tons of rust? I guess living in Arizona I don’t expect rust. Ever. I have a rust free ‘77 MGB. Probably the only one in the world.

use copper or aluminum as a backing so u dont blow holes.

22 gauge way too thin. 18 gauge allows more heat into it and more surface area to linish

Would you recommend any other methods that don’t involve welding but are still efficient? Thanks

Are these cars really worth this level of restoration?

😂 this is hard to watch just replace it in one large piece not lots of small pieces me personally if it’s got lots of rot just cut and graft a new panel in

They make floor repair panels that would allow you to replace the entire sheet metal of that section of the floor

22g. . . . That is entirely too thin of metal, but you do you. . .
