I’m not a Chevy guy from a long shot, however I can appreciate the fact that they give you options with their full size trucks, v8 or turbos. Also I appreciate the simplicity of the analog gauges!

I’m a Toyota guy and they ruined the new tundra, digital gauges, and they got rid of their v8, they only offer the v6 twin turbo.

Looks like I’ll keep my 1st gen tundra with the 4.7L V8 for the long haul. Technology is killing the truck market!

Why didn't they compare the newest revised 2.7 with 430 lbs of torque?

Straight to the point. Cut and dry. Thank you

2.7 turbo perfect for those who love to go outdoors and towing a small fishing boat and want a efficient vehicle. 5.3 is amazing for the daily tournaments fisherman that has a 80k bass boat or have a medium lawn care

These v8s are short stroke camaro motors. The 2.7 is a 21st century gas cummins. Truck motor 100%. Geez, do some research people.

I wonder what the difference would be at 5000ft. The 5.3 would lose about 30% of it's power at that elevation vs the turbo.

That 4 cylinder sounds pretty good, for a 4 cylinder. I'll stick with the V-8 though.

Been waiting for this comparison. Thanks!

It would be interesting to see the same test with a small utility trailer behind it. I live in a small town where everything is 10min away, rarely getting above 65mph, with 0-60 being almost identical i would definitely consider the 2.7

Im actually surprised… that 2.7 has some guts. We’ve come a long way since the iron duke

Yup wrong turbo truck and post elevation this is at. Sea level to maybe 1000’ the only place they will be that close and 2022 refresh and newer has 430 ft/lbs at 3000 rpm (that’s 82 more!). At 4000’ where I live I have 90 ft/lbs more torque at 1100 rpm less than the 5.3 does and only a 5 hp deficit. Amazing how people can’t read or research anything. Oh and the turbo has no lifters. Of all half ton motors the 2.7 is the most truck like formula period and has least amount of flies on it. Inline, big jugs, long stroke, one turbo. That’s 21st century cummins formula in gas. GM can see the future well. At my elevation I have 22 ft/lbs more than the 6.2 with a 63 hp deficit and I’m way lighter. That would be a much closer race, the 5.3 here isn’t even in the same league. Only 40% live around the coast, 60% at elevations. Turbos only lose 0.05% power per 1000’, naturally aspirated is 3% per. You’re welcome folks, try harder to learn about subjects before spouting off and removing all doubt. ;)

Dammmm that little 5.3 sounded good and seemed quick!

I was shocked when I looked at 1/2 tons before I bought my 2500hd. They only had 1 V8 on the lot. The rest were all the 4 bangers.

So my 2023 Colorado Trail Boss with the 430 torque flash should beat a new Silverado 5.3 when they want to try me?

The question is, which truck is faster to blow up??

i have a 2024 4x4 gmc crew cab with the 2.7 from 45 mph you can floor it and no downshift it just climbs has tons of set you back and pulls really hard from dead stop gets mileage as well 27.1mpg is my average, if drive hard its 21.7 mpg love it . Had a z71 4x4 with the 5.3 in other words gutless wonder hate that engine no power to pull hills always felt like it needed more power and a gas hog 15-16 mpg best it ever done

Nice video, I wonder how it would differ if used the new refreshed 2.7L motor

I mean the 2.7L is going to replace the 5.3L and 3.0L duramax. But honestly they need to work on the 2.7L mpg. It only 1 mpg better then the 5.3L in combined mileage. The only place it does better is in the city.

I'd say the 5.3 is a little faster... it also has less rear gearing. Also what trim levels as they dictates weight?

Turbos are game changers as they produce power lower in the rev range where most people need it. Most people simply are not running their V8s to rev-line coming off a stoplight. At altitude, the 2.7 turbo is even more responsive than the V8. For heavy duty towing, the V8 might feel more relaxed but I have seen the 2.7 deliver 15 mpg while towing. Can the V8 deliver that mpg while towing?
