Build and manage a Maximum Security Prison. As the sun casts it’s early morning rays on a beautiful patch of countryside the clock starts ticking. You’ve got to crack on and build a holding cell to detain the job­ lot of maximum security prisoners that are trundling to your future prison on their yellow bus. As your workmen lay the last brick you don’t have a moment to let them rest as they need to get started on the first proper cell block so you can make room for the next prisoner intake. Once they’ve all got a place to lay their weary heads the fun can really start.

You’ll need a canteen, infirmary and a guard room, oh, and don’t forget to plumb in a toilet, or things will get messy, but what about a workout area? Or solitary confinement cells? Or an execution chamber?

Inspired by Dungeon Keeper, Dwarf Fortress and Theme Hospital and with over 1 million players having spent time inside, Prison Architect is the world’s best lock-­em-­up.

Story Mode:
Prison Architect opens with the story of Edward, a man facing the electric chair for committing a crime of passion. This is followed by four additional chapters focusing on different characters and aspects of prison life. From Mafia Dons to power-crazed senators, Prison Architect has them all! To bring these characters to life, Introversion teamed up with award winning professional writer Chris Hastings, producing an enthralling tale of corruption and human misery set against the background of the modern prison industrial complex.

Escape Mode:
Finished your supermax? Got guard dogs roving every corridor and prisoners eating out of your hand? Now you can live the horror by firing up escape mode and play as a prisoner hell-bent on getting the hell out of dodge.

Dig a tunnel, go for the armoury or start a riot and slip out in the chaos, it’s entirely up to you! Figure out how to escape from your own creation, or hit the random button and load one of the 12,000 prisons created by the steam community, whichever you choose it’s not going to be easy...

I've had success with putting small canteens in the cell blocks similar to the way you've done the showers, then having a large central kitchen serving them all. It helps cut down on big fights in hotter prisons by keeping everyone in smaller groups. I can't remember if you've done anything like that before, maybe in the lunar base a million years ago.

My newest favorite layout includes the center hallway, security right on top on the road, and a single tile "security hallway" running on top of the center hallway, it's a bit tricky but looks really cool intersecting into a 3 wide, and staff zips right to where they need to

At 20:00 when you are making the cell block put the showers in the middle so that it is 4 either side of the shower blocks

What happens if you put a regular criminal in a padded cell? If nothing, then you could just make all your cells padded for ease and convenience. Alternatively, you could just put padding in approximately half of your 3x2 cells and mix your sane and insane prisoners. Also I second the idea of putting power, water, kennel, and armory accross the road.

PA and Airships are the best series - well done with them.

If you end up running an Airships series again, do something with the premise of 'only use what we take' (any interpretation) or a 'Treaty of Versaille-esc' series, where you have to build up from very little while keeping within certain restrictions eg. 'No boarding frigate containing more than 20 crew.', might be interesting?

Edit: But also, very interested to see where this prison goes, glad to see we're going over these two categories but I understand your reservations on Criminally Insane

Time for one final run, eh? A shame an "All DLC Run" doesn't work out well. If I remember right DLC can be applied retroactively, so have you tried activating them one at a time? Make a small prison without any dlc, after you're satisfied with it expand the lot and add one dlc, repeat until all dlc have been implemented.

What about water and power. I think you should have it on the right side of the road. Again a bit different than normal and maybe even having the dog and guns on that side and outside the prison so harder to get to.

Can criminally insane have children? So you would have to mix regular prisoners and insane ones? Also you could try making the top left corner a focal buildin/yard and when you expand left and up the build gets mirrored and creates a cool central area

I love this game but as a console player, it was over before it started. The console version is missing so many features which where ignored whilst the new DLC was churned out.
