Neuroplasticity Facts #shorts

If you have MS: Have you ever wondered if neuroplasticity REALLY works 🧠?

I hear this all the time... "Does it actually work? It sounds too good to be true.”

My answer is always an immediate “YES!”

Here are 5️⃣ things you need to know about neuroplasticity + some tips on how to implement them!

1️⃣ Neuroplasticity is the ability of our brain to strengthen our neural pathways (or find brand new pathways).

When this happens, our muscles get stronger and mobility is easier.

2️⃣ It occurs in everyone with MS, regardless of our age...

3️⃣ But it can take longer as we get older.

4️⃣ It can take anywhere from a few months to 2 years to see improved strength & mobility from neuroplasticity-based exercises when performed consistently.

5️⃣ The best way to get neuroplasticity working is to repeat lots of repetitions of a functional exercise with focused attention.

This means that if you have a goal of walking with better quality/tripping less 🚶‍♀️…

...practice at least ONE (or more) exercise that’s required for walking — like marching or leg kicks.

Do as many good-quality repetitions as you can throughout the day, making sure you have focused attention on each one!

While the majority of research shows that neuroplasticity DOES happen for people with brain lesions, research is unclear on it's effect in spinal lesions.

With that said —

SO many of my MSing Link members with spinal lesions have seen progress in strength and walking from utilizing the neuroplasticity-based exercises and techniques in our program.

Comment below if you’re working towards improving your strength 💪 and/or mobility 🚶‍♀️. I'm here cheering you on!

My walking needs a lot of work. I walk with a cane but now it becomes easier to walk with a walker. 😢
My feet need a lot of work to help them lift off the ground and not to drag them.

I see the results and I also notice how it lessens if I don’t stay consistent…which a great motivator. My goal is to move as much as possible so when the new research for repair comes up with something I start from strong place…🤷‍♀️
