iPad mini 7 review - it could've been perfect...

The brand new 2024 iPad mini 7th generation or A17 Pro model is an interesting one. On one hand it's a reasonable spec bump that folds the mini into the Apple Intelligence loop. On the other it's a bit of a letdown in terms of what new chip was put in, amongst other things. In this video I give my brutally honest review of this device and, discuss things I wish it had and equally importantly tell you about what it does really well and why to buy it!

The iPad mini can be described with the following.

1. Apple had an oversupply of prior parts and chips.
2. The iPad mini’s tam is <10% of apple’s tablet sales.
3. They just put old parts (that were going to the dumpster behind the old Foxconn factory) in a prior design and are selling it to you.

The genius is that YouTubers will still talk, promote and endorse a sub par product.

This is what we call the farm, where all the animals march in lockstep.

The only thing is that Apple ultimately controls the feed.

My Space Grey arrives tomorrow. Upgrading from the 2019 5th Gen.

Thanks for the content.

good on you for calling out the lack of 2nd Gen 3nm chip tech. I have a feeling this thing will run hot due to the overclocking issues with the A17 chip (I hope im wrong here though)

A18 would have made much more sense to me

I’m not surprised that this is just a “spec bump”. It got a full redesign for the 6. I bought it and still love it to this day. I use it as part of an EDC and am still very happy with the performance. Everyone complaining about this version is looking for the pro features. Buy an iPad Pro. The mini is a niche product and no professional will be doing work on a screen this small. It’s perfect for content consumption viewing photos and checking emails. Stuff like that. I’ll hold on to my six and will upgrade when the OLED version comes out. Thanks for the review Noah.

I got a 12.9 m2 to upgrade from my old 11in 2018 iPad Pro, I love it but damn it’s so big I don’t really wanna bring it out so im getting one of these. I’m mainly gonna use for music production so all that 60hz, jelly scrolling bs don’t really matter to me. All that extra ram is what makes me happy😊

Had no idea about Final Cut on this. That’s pushed me over the edge to upgrade from my 6th gen. I was using a Pro iPad only for Final Cut and it felt too big and overkill for that one thing. This has me super stoked now!

Coming from the mini 5 the side bezels on the newer models drive me insane. I get we have more screen size but those side bezels at least vertically make it seem like you dont. Or the screen just seems less wide vertical.

I am planning to get the iPad Mini 7. I plan to use my device for the next 2-3 years. My main activities on this device will be streaming musics, youtube and netflix. Note taking & PDF reading for my work and my post grad degree. Maybe 1-2 games only. Do you thick 128GB will suffice ?

I was depleting my iphones battery, dont wanna use bigger screens for content, maybe ok the 11" but still, the mini for me is perfect for all day around usage keeping the battery of my iphones healthier. It does the job well, and can use it as a phone. so why not? Yeah ok bezzles and 60Hz is a joke, but it is what it is. BUT, because we talkin bout chillin, dont forget that OLEDs arent better for the eye strain. I can easily doze off watching stuff on a 60Hz compared to any OLED 120 Hz, and there have been studies about this. LCDs are far better for the eye. Compared to Samsungs I mean Ive used. And I believe, until they figure the tech out with the eye strain I will be goin for LDCs.

Don't upgrade. I bought the new one and it overheated to the point where I couldn't even hold it in my hand. I returned it and got a new one and that one overheated too, so I returned it and giving up on this new Mini.

I have a 128 gig mini 4. People spent 499.00 for a mini 6 with 64 gig. There was a 150.00 difference between that and 256 gig.
On the new I pad there is a 100.00 difference.
I am going to buy the 256 gig as I plan to have this iPad a long time. My 128 gig mini 4 lasted 9 years. With AI, you don't know how much memory the other apps are going to eat up so you are covered in that regard.
