I was going to give my controversial take that Hostiles is easily one of the best Westerns in the history of Hollywood, among the top 5 for sure, but then I read the comments I realized most people agree and that it wasn't controversial at all.
We as audiences should be ashamed that we let it flop; that's why we don't deserve nice things.

Yep I agree Seraphine falls was a great movie beautifully shot and great actors I wonder what Angelica Housten thought also the same for Hostiles, great plot great cast and again beautifully shot as for the rest total waste of time and money which could have been put to better use can't believe these companies piss away so much money, don't blame Clint Eastwood for going his own way great actor brilliant director and doesn't waste time and money

Heaven's Gate is actually a masterpiece. UA's panic cost them their company. They hired an editor to chop 70 minutes out of the version they originally screened and were stupid enough to let all of their consternation and negative opinions about the film get into the press. The release version made no sense to viewers. It destroyed the pace and narrative. By the time the any version was released, the public had been warned away. I saw the release version anyway since I enjoyed westerns. It was a mess. You would've believed that Cimino didn't know how to tell a story. If they had kept their mouths shut, released the current restored version and promoted it as an epic western then it might have made enough to save the studio. The United Artist execs were their own worst enemies.

As a former CASA in the heart of Indian Country, I found Hostiles disgusting. Despite the Indian Child Welfare Act, indigenous children are still being ripped from their families and tribes across North America by the thousands every year and placed in White households. The end of that movie brought me, a 75-year-old grandson of Danish and Norwegian immigrants, to tears. May be a fine film, but it's a devastating, self-righteous message.

Hostiles was one of the worst movies ever produced! To begin with it was set during 1892 even though the last major battle of the Indian Wars was at Wounded knee during 1890! This movie was not only historically inaccurate, It had a lot of senseless violence and brutality! It was as awful as Saving Private Ryan.The reason I watch movies is to be entertained, not disgusted by seeing a lot of senseless carnage and violence!
