Pulp Fiction: Butch shoots Vincent

What’s happening in this Pulp Fiction movie clip?
Butch (Bruce Willis) arrives at his hotel room to retrieve his golden watch and discovers that someone is already here, waiting for him. Fortunately for Butch, that someone is currently in the toilet and left his gun in the room. Butch takes the weapon and wait for the stranger to come out. When the latter does so, we discover that it’s in fact Vincent (John Travolta). After a short moment of silence, Butch shoots him.

What’s the movie Pulp Fiction about?
Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Pulp Fiction follows the mission of two hitmen, Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) and Vincent Vega (John Travolta), out to retrieve a suitcase stolen from their employer, mob boss Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames). Wallace has also asked Vincent to take his wife Mia (Uma Thurman) out a few days later when Wallace himself will be out of town. Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) is an aging boxer who is paid by Wallace to lose his next fight. Honey Bunny and Pumpkin (Tim Roth) are a couple of young lovers and small-time thieves who decide they need a change of venue. The lives of these seemingly unrelated people are woven together in a wildly entertaining and exhilarating motion picture adventure that both thrills and amuses.

Only after watching this a few times do you understand just how incompetent Vincent is. Unnecessary starts beef with Butch which (likely) leads to his car getting keyed. Leaves his stash out leading to Mia’s overdose. Kills Marvin by accident. Escalates the diner robbery when Jules had it under control. Has the audacity to ask the wolf to say please when he’s doing them a HUGE favor. And somehow lets his target turn the tables on him, leading to his own death and his boss’s torture. A lot of this gets overlooked bc John travolta just looks cool while he’s screwing up

When you look at Vincent's general approach to life you'd wonder how he live as long as he did!

Vincent leaving his MAC10 on the kitchen counter while he went to take a dump was something Jules would have quickly picked up on and corrected. Without Jules to look after him, Vincent's sloppiness got him killed.

Vincent didn't even wash his hands. That's the real crime

Watching this scene made me realize that my LA apartment's kitchen hasn't been renovated since 1994...

I like how Vincent carelessness finally catches up to him. He could hear Butch loud and clear but he mistook him for Jules and got served two slices of toast with a mac-10.

One of the biggest game changers I noticed with Quintins films is the lack of music. It makes the scenes feel so real.

Everytime John Travolta goes to the bathroom in this movie, shit goes down.

Clearly, self-preservation is an instinct Vince didn't possess.

Sad to hear about Bruce's medical condition. I'm going to miss him being in movies.

What I love about this scene is how it's basically a continuation of where Butch and Vincent left off. They met once before and they immediately hated each other. Now they see each other again and Butch has the same expression of contempt he had the first time they met.

It’s crazy how careless Vincent was here. He literally thought he could not be killed and not be taken off guard but that gets him killed by his own weapon.

The fact that the cameraman made it through that fence so smoothly with their equipment is impressive.

If Butch had just left instead of making himself pop-tarts, he never would have run into Marcellus on the road at exactly the right time lol this movie is too funny

What almost no-one knows about this scene is that the reason he was using the bathroom during such a bad time is because of his heroin use. Opioids, especially really strong ones, slow down your bowel movement. It's a pretty significant issue actually. So in this scene he didn't just die in a stupid way, he died like it because of his drug use, this is some really clever writing, epsecially form a religious / spiritual standpoint.

This scene where he's cutting through the neighborhoods and going into the apartment just felt so real....the camera work here is PHENOMENAL

I love the whole uninterrupted shot of him sneaking through the alley, no music to tell you how to feel, beautiful shot

Gotta love the camera shot of following him all the way to his apartment. Building up the suspense that he may be killed upon entering.

The smoke alarm basically being Butch’s heart rate after something like that happening is perfect

I love how Marcellus and Vince wear suits like they’re on official business. All the while one guy is taking a shit without a care in the world and the other is going to get coffee and donuts like they’re about to watch Sunday football. Really well-executed steak out, boys.
