It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

My father, Late Syam Sundar Chaudhury was a Sanskrit Pandit of 1950's. When I was 14 he would chant all these verses of Uponishads to me and would try to explain God as it is, as Uddalok to Shewtaketu. I was never interested but he would try. After a journey of 60 years of life now I feel how a father should be. After hearing Swami Swarbapriyanandji I recall him and recall one thing that my father did not attain the highest but achieved one thing in his life, he achieved to be free from Krodha and Dwesa (anger and jealousy). So it will take birth after birth to attain the highest and he will try to teach his son in every life. My father was my spiritual Guru in real sense but I could not recognise.

When I read the gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, and he speaks of his love for the Devine mother, tears of joy come to my eyes. This happens with with no other books in my library except of the Psalms pf David. I know Ramakrishna is an Avatar as I have no other explanation for the shakti in his words that so easily touch my heart.

It is great that the brilliant Swami Sarvapriyananda can speak so clearly about the centrality of love for the divine Thakur as far as his Order's mission in this world is concerned. Sometimes many people may think that the Vedanta Society strives to fit Sri Ramakrishna's teaching within a monistic approach, but in fact the great light of this Order is to bring to the world the broad understanding of the beloved God full of all the wonderful gunas.

Sri Ramakrishna is a Bodhisattva for our materialistic degenerate times (Kali Yuga). In fact, the great Metaphysician Frithjof Schuon aptly known by his epithet "The Seal of the Sages" has said the following on Sri Ramakrishna: "There is something in Ramakrishna that seems to defy every category: he was like the living symbol of the inward unity of religions; he was in fact the first Saint to wish to enter into foreign spiritual forms, and in this consisted his exceptional and in a sense universal mission— something allying him to the Prophets without making him a prophet in the strict sense of the word; in our times of confusion, distress, and doubt, he was the Saintly “verifier” of forms and the “revealer” as it were of their single Truth."
