My hang ups are:

1- It’s still useful!
2- How else could I use this and keep it from ending up in a landfill (especially because even about 85% of our donations end up there)

“It’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it…” A true statement for every fire department.

I was saving glass jars from jellies or mayo lol. Then one day I had purchased bagged chia seeds and several types of flour, dry milk, yeast to make bread. These jars came in handy! Everything now had air tight storage and yes, they get refilled.

That is SO ME! 😂 Yes, I freely admit that I am a "Container Whore-der" in recovery. This week.😁

Most of my elder family has passed away and as an only child and only grandchild on both sides it been up to me to clean out houses. My grandmother had over 1000 pieces of glassware. One woman who had been single for 40 years who had one child had over 1000 pieces of glassware, over 200 Barbies, 500 plus Beanie Babies, 300 Madame Alexander dolls, enough furniture stuff into one house to furnish 3 houses. She had saved every box from every appliace she had bought for the last 15 years. The house was in such disrepair it was worth about 1/3 what se had paid for it because all this stuff was purchased and no repairs were done. I loved my grandmother. She worked hard in life and had suffered quite a bit with an abusve childhood. A person who works hard should be able to have some things they like. You just have to keep in mind when you are letting stuff accumulation cause financial and quality of life issues.

This is me right now with boxes!! I’m going through them because there are odd sizes and my business definitely utilities boxes. So now I’m digging them all out and accessing their sizes

I think the pandemic showed us that we can end up with supply issues.

I like cute tiny things. I’m also extremely sentimental to things and it’s hard for me to throw out things

Having grown up in a car on the road, I value things that I don’t have to spend money for twice. It has helped me so much. Yes I am a minimalist. No, I don’t have piles of crap in my house; it’s actually very minimalist. Tiny house.

Ha! Pretty funny, and true! My son used to berate me, saying I kept anything that could potentially be used as a container, even if it remained empty for years. He's right. I keep a minimum of containers now.

Orienting yourself around stuff is the important concept of this clip.

For me, it’s hard to let go of things, especially clothes because I was homeless on drugs, and I didn’t have shit so even though some of the clothes don’t fit me, I still have them… it’s like I only have to lose 10 to 15 pounds to fit in them so it won’t take that long even though I gained weight 2021-2022 lol… so I still have hope that I will lose it…

I feel like people that do it has/had a grandparent that when eating dinner with them made you eat everything on your plate with the phrase, Don't waste. Which translated to the eventual accidental hoarding.

I do this with glass jars too lol. But I use them for my paint and brushes. I save plastic containers too but I use them for leftovers. Why would I spend money on plastic containers when I could just reuse the ones I’ve already paid for? And if those plastic containers are good enough to store food at the store why wouldn’t it work for leftovers? Idk, I’m definitely not a hoarder lol. My place is pretty bare tbh.

Over the years, I have donated thousands of books. Recently I donated over 50% of the ones still on my shelves. I’m down to maybe 200 books: the ones I actually USE for language study, a few cookbooks, and some that were given to me as gifts.
I got rid of a huge bookcase, too.
My current rule is: If there is no room in my bookcase, no additional books are allowed.
