On this episode of Global National: Canada's Food Price Report predicts food will become even more expensive in 2022, with prices rising by up to seven per cent. Ross Lord breaks down how much family food bills could end up being, which products will become pricier, and how it could impact buying habits. And Anne Gaviola explains what's fuelling the inflation.

Also, despite millions of COVID-19 rapid test kits given to provinces across Canada, very few have been used so far due to low distribution. Mike Le Couteur reports on how doctors are trying to make the tests more accessible.

As the COVID-19 pandemic drags on, the numbers of postponed surgeries continues to pile up, leaving some patients in a critical waiting game. Heather Yourex-West looks at the toll it's taking and what some people are willing to pay to get treatment sooner.

Plus, an investigation by Auditor General Karen Hogan has found significant failings in the enforcement of testing and quarantining travellers entering Canada. David Akin explains the findings, as uncertainty about the Omicron variant rises.

And despite attempts to dislodge it, a huge barge remains marooned on a Vancouver beach after extreme weather in November blew the vessel into the seawall. But why are people so fascinated and fond of it? Jordan Armstrong explains the new craze that's barged into the hearts of Vancouverites.

1. How do you not mention the government spending 300+ BILLION?! That's not free money!!
2. Don't downplay the effects of Interest rates on debt. 1%-2% increases can bankrupt families.
3. Inflation operates as a hidden tax, this is echoed by economists and noble prize winners. They explain how it's an effect of the government's poor management of monetary policy.

Try a little investigative journalism next time..

Biggest cause of inflation is the printing of money without real product or services to back it up. Economy 101.

Because government spending is out of control.

Let me get this straight: The reasons for inflation are: 1) Higher transportation costs (wonder why gas is more expense, hmmm?). 2) Supply chain snarls (fair enough). 3) Labour shortages (ok...). 4) Climate change (fine: droughts, fires, floods). But how can you call this reporting and NOT mention the doubling of the national debt? Pretend to put in some effort in giving us the news at least.

I'll say this for the millionth time. There is no trucker shortage, there's a shortage of companies willing to pay drivers a livable wage. East Indians still have the monopoly.

I don't understand why eye surgery for baby should be delayed? Pediatric ICUs or surgeons should not be "busy" with Covid patients. What is the reason?!

Food banks are getting new cars pull up to get groceries. I personally know of one family who's culture teaches them as new Canadians that you go there for groceries NOT out of true need but simply to save money. This family tried to barter with me since they didn't want the meat-based cans since they don't eat meat. I declined so they probably tossed the stuff.

Omg 😳 another 5-8% increase on food prices (& everything else) 🥺it’s already been happening big time & it’s extremely difficult to keep up….we need to become more self sufficient, & self producing as individuals & our country as a whole…and why is the meat & gas & many other things, sky rocketing prices when they come from where I live in Alberta 🤷🏼‍♀️?!..this has gotten completely out of hand and so much of it just doesn’t make sense to me and so many people, myself included, are struggling already😞
