I just learned this trick or something very similar to it. I like many self working tricks, but im not crazy about this trick.
In my opinion, MLT is a FABULOUS magician, and is much better than this.
Its a GREAT trick for beginners. And im grateful for that.

A few quick tips to modify this slightly (for beginners).
Instead of dealing exactly 15 cards, you can just say lets just take a "FEW" cards, this way the spectator wouldn't think much about how many cards is there (some people notices little things like that).
After they shuffle the cards you let pick any cards but not look at it yet, take the package back into your hand and then have them look at it, ideally only 1 person look at it so the reveal is a little bit more dramatic but if you don't trust that 1 singular spectators to tell the truth card before the reveal, you can have multiple people look at it. After this proceed with the trick.

You can also modify the out jog sequence by dealing into 2 piles of card (if deal from left to right, the right pack have the selection card, if deal from right to left then the left pack have the card). You could also make the audience involve by telling to "POINT" at any pile, if is the pack with cards, keep it, if not remove it.
And when there's 3 card remaining, you can shuffle it up (but keep track of the middle card, if everything done correctly, that should be they card), and reveal it with what ever method you like, my personal choice is after shuffle have them touch any of the 3 cards.

This is just another way to do this trick, of course you can experiment with it and see whichever method fit.
Also, since the number requirement is greater than 7 and less than 15, you told the spectators to choice between 8 and 15 incase any hecklers would purposely pick 7 or 15. 15 is fine because you only reversing the order of the cards, the selection still remain, but 7 would mess up the sequence. Or you could let them pick 7 anyways because if the selection is 7, they card should go back to the top.

When you are ready to display the selected card, you can do a Klondike shuffle and the selected card will be back on the top. Snap your fingers and say, after all this, your card is back on the top and turn it over.

It's kinda obvious how he does this trick if you shuffle it the way he did at the beginning, because it's obvious that it's going into the middle. Instead what you can do is give it a few cuts, where the cards you cut add up to 8. For example, you would take 2 cards off the top and put them on the bottom. Then you would take 5 cards and put them on the bottom. Then you would do it again with 1 card. It gets your spectators card into the middle because 2 + 5 + 1 = 8.
