Tug Boat Working the Miami River at Night (Lightning Storms)

Miami River Towing operates three Tugs on the Miami River. Today we jump aboard the Sara with Captain Morgan and like he said "I'm gonna take you for a ride ".

Working the Miami River at night is not like the day its a completely different story. These crews have very minimal work spaces and manage to get these hug ships controlled in the tightest spaces. The very first challenge we faced was a very expensive Yacht docked right in the path of the Cargo ship the Sara was going to be tailing.

My name is Alfred Montaner Host of the Chit Show and I'm honored to showcase the team at Miami River Towing on tonights trip. Its a long video but I wanted you to experience it like I experienced it !

Big shout of to all the people who work the Miami River and we even got a guest appearance from Fred the tail Captain of the Atlas tug boat from Hempstead Marine.

It’s great to get a tour of Miami from the river point of view, and some general knowledge of tugboat operations. But for some of us that are thoroughly interested in the mechanics, the forces, the timing, the tides and the momentum we would love to see some more of a throttle work, and how turns are initiated whether he splitting the
Throttles, pushing, or pulling to achieve desired turn, and the timing applied such forces.

Alfred, I am an old Englishman almost 80 and loved boating in my younger days. I was privileged to be able to cyber-travel the Miami River with you in your inflatable boat video, and now I watched this Tug-boat operation, I thoroughly enjoyed that trip too and really appreciate an experience that would not be possible without you. When you see Captain Morgan again, please thank him sincerely on behalf of a viewer from across The Atlantic Ocean for allowing you to film the work of the tugboat crews. He is such a calm gentleman. When he said his tug would be the follower, I was surprised when the ship was tugged backwards. I thought the ship was facing in the direction it was going to travel. Thanks again for going to the trouble to make all of your videos.

That ain't no job, it's a profession... Good thing you filmed all this. Few people know what it really takes to get a ship out of port... Keep up the good work Alfred !

I have seen many documentaries on the different aspects of Miami. But Alfred Montaner is giving us the REAL Miami. You deserve an Oscar for your videos. You are the BEST.

Well there goes two hours of my life I will never get back but I must say I enjoyed every minute of it. The skill of CA Morgan was impressive in keeping the freighter centered in the channel. Because of him the lead tug crew had it it easy. Retired airline captain.

Thanks for the Beautiful Tour. And the excitement. I am an old shipbuider myself and this is amazing to see such a massive piece of machinery being manovered around like it is nothing. Pure skills, and knowledge. Thanks again guys.

Wow. Captain Morgan has mad skills - what a cool dude under pressure and doesn't show it. I've been around boats most of my life, learned a lot about power boats, learned to sail, and bought a nice power boat to live aboard for several years. I was glued to my laptop for every single second of this amazing video. And the deck hands - everyone was on point, and safety first. Major respect for Captain & crew.

I had no idea that this is what happens with moving a ship out of the harbor. Captain Morgan is a real professional. Thank You for what you do Alfred and Capt.

Old school REAL tug boating !! My first paying job was on a tug in Georgetown SC. A Consolidated, 1945 YTB with a Fairbanks - Morse direct reversible engine. And it gets better .. I was taught how to answer bells, buzzes and jingles ! Only an old school Tug - Boater would know what that means. Our tug manager and docking master was Capt. Morgan too! Not the Morgan in this video but, Capt. James Morgan Futch. Awesome video, real skills, throw rocks at those tractor tugs !

My hats off to you Capt. Morgan, crew and Alfred Montaner. I love those Detroit engines. They are workhorses. I was once going for my captains license back in the mid 70s early 80s. Use to be a mate on a party boat out of New Jersey. Happy independence day to you all.

What an awesome video Alfred. I sit and watched this whole thing. Our politicians need to watch videos like this, just to see how things are done in the working mans world.
