Baroness uses a pure stock telecaster with single coils, and they sound HUGE

Fun fact, Soundgarden used to use teles for their down tuned tracks. Always sounded big but clear.

I have a thrown together parts tele with just a p90 in the bridge and it sounds great for doom, drone and sludge metal. I normally keep it in Dstandard and drop C

What I love here, is the diversity, that is created throughout the scene, when you think yourself about your own gear. I also play a telecaster for doom and an old ibanez Am 50 with hollow body. It works, the sounds are different and amazing. It always helps to create a sound you love for yourself first before showing it to others

I remember seeing Soundgarden in the mid 90s when they toured Down on the Upside and both Kim Thayil and Chris Cornell used Teles on a number of songs. Still sounded heavy!

Joe Duplantier of Gojira uses Teles in a lot of things. He actually made me open my mind to them!

The thing with the Telecaster Deluxe, the one the guitarist from Bongripper uses, is they have Wide Range humbuckers, which are amazing cause they're the perfect middle ground between humbuckers and single coils. They are more similar to two telecaster pickups wired in series, instead of the regular humbucker which is more similar to a P90.
So they have more attack than the regular humbucker, and a wider range both in lows and highs, as the name implies. They're my favourite pickups.

I feel like people dismiss single coils as sounding “small”, but what they miss is that due to how expressive single coils are, it means that your tone is only as powerful as your playing. It all translates through from your hands much more clearly, so you can really get some expressive and crushing sound.

One of my favorite Tele players is Benjamin Burnley. He played a Tele in the early days of Breaking Benjamin, and one on Saturate. By the time the music video for Polyamorous was done he had already switched to PRS. There’s a live video of the song Water where he uses a tele

Hello from Australia, has anyone mentioned Roy Buchanan yet? He’s easily my favourite Tele player, brought a lot of new techniques to the table that are staple to most players today. Amazing blues player, RIP.
I never thought my Tele esquire would give me the right sound for this kind of thing, but after this I think it’s time to tune my single coil fenders down a few steps and see where it takes me...

Chris Spencer from Unsane and The Cutthroats 9 plays some really, really heavy riffs on a tele. I think he just goes direct into an old Marshall. Also, I think I’ve seen Dylan Carlson play a telecaster or a baritone tele or something that resembles a tele, but that’s a hazy memory, as all Earth memories should be.

The space rock part you played in the middle of the vid and the doom riffs at the end (second pedal especially) sounded great.

Been using a tele for stoner/doom stuff for a while and its great! The Tele is such a versatile guitar.
