I felt like such a genius when I figured out it's played with half step down tuning and drop D

First and probably the last time I've heard or seen anyone play it on the 7th fret

I’ve actually never heard of playing higher of the neck. I’ve always played it on the open position.

While I am all for efficiency and what my teacher called Finger Economy, the way you played it was how i was taught to get comfortable with moving my hand up and down the neck. One of the hardest things when I was learning as a kid and now relearning as an adult with arthritis is to how to keep my hand from being too static.

I’ve never seen it played on the 7th fret before.

So interesting to me how guitar players can learn the same song but play it different ways, part of the reason I love guitar. I’ve always played it the Kurt way but I love finding out different ways to play the same song

I learned the "correct" method when I first learnt guitar in around '94. I've played it with dozens of musicians since over the years. But it's super common for people to play the 730 progression. It's so releiving to her that knowledge. Thank you

Ive been playing it right ever since i heard the song in the late 90s.
I remember hearing the song and visualizing it in my mind, then i figured it out. I knew the correct tuning also.

For once in my life, I actually figured this riff out myself... totally correctly to the artist!

Wish you showed how you use to play it so we could hear/see the difference….. I’ve only ever known how to play it in drop d. Cool vid anyways🎸👍

Most people don't understand why Kurt Cobain play like that.. Actually he was shown how to play with ease chords instead of playing with the correct chords on fretboard...
When I was learn to play this song, I figured out how ease it was with open strings notes... And many guitar players found out that open strings would be better way to use and make a song

You can watch him play it on the live and loud show

I guess i'm the exception to the rule here judging by the comments, but I learnt it on 7th as suggested back when I was about 17 in 98' from a friend who was taught the full riff by a guitar teacher.

I didn't have the tab at the time so played it that way ever since!

How could you not have been playing that way in the first place? Clearly never watched a nirvana gig

Now that you play it on the same frets Kurt did, they'll still say you're not playing it like Kurt. Kurt was left handed.

I've never ever encountered anyone who played it in the 7th fret position.
