In this lesson, you will learn what a rational exponent is and how to simplify expressions with rational exponents. A rational exponent is just an exponent that can be written as a fraction. First, we describe how rational exponents can be written in terms of a radical expression. Next, we solve many problems where we must simplify the expression and write the answer either in rational exponent form (fractional exponents) or as a radical expression.

I am almost 70 years old and I am watching your videos as if I am still going to college. That is how good you are. I wish we had teachers like you who could have explained just half as good as you are. Simply you are outstanding and enjoyable to watch your passion and enthusiasm. God bless you.

It takes a bright man to make a math concept that easy and simple. My thanks to you for all your videos are to the power of one million

Congratulations, this is probably the most comprehensive (yet understandable) video on fractional exponents I have seen.

In particular, it's nice to see that you didn't skip over (as is often the case) the fact that the "root then power" approach yields the same result as "power then root", and what's more you actually explained why this is the case due to the commutativity of multiplication.

Nice one!

When I need a detailed explanation for math... if I can't find this professor, then I try to figure it out on my own... luckily I have not had to do it on my own. He's great!!
