Can you roof in the winter? Know what a cold weather asphalt shingle roofing installation requires for your roofing manufacturer's warranty! Roofing manufacturers won't specify what temperature or date classifies as a cold weather installation. Cold weather applications require hand sealing every single for the manufacturer's warranty to be honored. If a warranty claim is started with the manufacturer, they will require a couple shingles be sent in for inspection. If it is determinedthat there is no manufacturer defect but was installed in cold weather without hand sealing done, they may not stand behind it! If you the homeowner or contractor did not follow the manufacturers cold-weather installation instructions you could be at a big financial loss.

I made a shingle /tar heater(hot box ) I take up on my roofs warms them up so nails don’t break the shingle and makes shingles in closed cut valleys soft so they lay flat, that being said can only put 2 bundles in and few starters take bundle out replace to heat more up having 2 bundles in at a time rotate back and forth I also just run quick stick of tar on the butted ends, I ussaly shut down for winter but when I get the call I make sure I do the proper job -25 there like butter, I treat winter roof as if it was 2/12 but awesome Video, dynasty’s were a great pick for that high wind app straight as an arrow tar the few down that lifted 🤙

Depending on the temperature also the shingle shattering from nailing. I preheat my shingles in my shop for 2-3 days and when on the job site i keep them heated all day and only take out the shingles i can put down before the temp can affect them. Im in Alaska so it can be 30 below this is the only true way to keep quality high. In 25 years no one else has followed my lead they just color the roof quantity over quality is all they care about.

How long would you say it takes to hand seal 1 SQ of shingles?

I've seen a lot of bad with iko .they don't like to cover much and other shingle manufacturers will
